  • Hacker Creates Siri Proxy Server Hack to Add Limitless Functionality to Siri

Applidium’s cracking of the Siri security protocol early this week was a huge development in the quest to successfully get Siri communicating with Apple servers on non-iPhone 4S devices. While it still isn’t possible, an interesting development by a hacker with the Twitter handle “plamoni” might bring a bevy of new features to Siri.

Plamoni created a proxy server for Siri. The whole point of the proxy server allows developers to create custom Siri handlers for different actions. In plamoni’s particular example he created a plugin with custom handles that allowed him to control his thermostat from his iPhone.

The possibilities extend far beyond checking and changing the settings on a thermostat. Even better, the hack doesn’t require a jailbroken iPhone 4S to work. But, it does requires a decent amount of knowledge of certificates and openssl as users will need to create a root CA, load the root CA’s public certificate to their phone and set up a DNS server on their home network. Full instructions on how to set up a Siri Proxy on your home network can be found here.

This development has my mind racing like a six-year old’s in Candy Land. The jailbreak community will undoubtedly come up with a number of elegant, functional, and useful Siri hacks utilizing the what Applidium started and plamoni continued.

Again I cannot reiterate how awesome this development is. Siri could be far more customizable and easily manipulated than previously imagined.

Hopefully they'll be able to use that protocol to rewrite the signature being sent to Apples Server w 4S......Then finally Siri can come 2 older devices such as my iPhone 4 (which w/A4 Chip is MORE then powerful Enough to Process)

wait, i thought Siri was portable to ip4(?), it just wouldn't communicate with the server because it was blocked, right? SO in essence can't we make our own jailbroken Siri server with this? of course it wouldn't be as fully functional as Apple's but for the jailbreak community it's be cool

I just want to see Siri do something simple like "open four square, check in" but that could just be wishful thinking.

I was waiting for this to occur, knew it would happen at some point and it's awesome!Siri will be used to control almost everything in the house once we can get everything on wifi. Currently I'm working on a Global Cache IR blaster setup to control the blinds, thermostat, PS3, TV, etc. This will work but it's IR which kind of sux...but the trajectory is promising!

Since I have this up and running, yes I suppose you could make your own novelty server for siri with a 4S that is. If you knew how to enable Siri on older devices it would still fail because you must have a 4S UUID to be able to talk to Guzzoni.apple which is needed for Siri to do anything. If Rouge UUID's are in the wild from a Siri port, I see banned 4S's in the future.

While JB is legal and using 3rd party apps legal

Someone tell me how using SIRI, a service by Apple, on anything other than a 4s is not piracy?

Please, since Apple did not open the servers to anything else than 4s seems to me Apple will have a case that JB are over the line on this

You will need an iPhone 4S to send the commands from and a Mac to run the SiriProxy. I am testing this connected to my local network using my iPhone 4S, so i’m connected to my home wifi with internet on it not to my mac. I just go in and configure a static dns on my wifi settings. settings->wifi->and under the connection. So my mac is 20.0.0.43 and my router is 20.0.0.2, this allows me to connect my iPhone to regular siri commands as well as commands from SiriProxy and still maintain all internet connectivity through wifi.
Guess this is ok and a tweak (not stealing) since you are using a permitted device on Apple's server
