  • Motorola Calls iPad "Just a Giant iPhone"
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quI2I8wLPdc&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - Tablet Evolution presented by Motorola[/ame]

Motorola threw down yesterday with a new teaser video for their mysterious upcoming 10-inch Android tablet. Called "Tablet Evolution," the video takes shots at both the iPad - which is derisively referred to as "a giant iPhone" and the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which runs a version of Android OS meant to run on a phone. The video ends with a shot of an object under a curtain, and a bee (presumably representing "Honeycomb," the made-for-tablets version of Android) buzzing around Motorola's new red logo, followed by the words "CES 2011," indicating the device will be released at the Consumer Electronics Show next month.

Nothing is known for sure about the Motorola tablet, which was briefly shown off by company vice president Andy Rubin at the All Things Digital: Dive Into Mobile conference in San Francisco a few weeks ago. It is believed to have a 10-inch, 1200-by-800 display, a 1GHz Tegra 2 T20 processor with 512 MB of RAM, 32 GB of built-in flash, and support for up to 32 GB of external storage via its microSD slot. Rumors have also suggested a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, an HDMI out port, a microUSB port and a gyroscope. It's expected to be carried on Verizon Wireless, which has signaled that it will announce LTE-compatible Android devices at CES on January 6. A blurry picture of the Motorola tablet in Verizon livery was also leaked this month, further bolstering that rumor.

Apple has a number of competitors queued up to be the "iPad killer," but up until Motorola none have been able to match it in terms of screen real estate. If Honeycomb is able to overcome the limitations of existing Android OSes it may be a serious challenger. However, there is a real hurdle to overcome: Apple's head start puts it on track to sell as many as 43 million iPads next year. Is there a market for that many giant Droids?

I really think Motorola has been going downhill since smart phones took over the smart phone market. Unless they have some really innovative features it's just gonna get tossed aside with all the other tablets.

LOL That's nothing we didn't know about. iPad IS a giant iPhone. If you look at the structure, functions, and OS, that's no mystery. I've always found it so cute that the society without enough undersanding and knowledge treating it like a miracle spending so much money and worshiping it.

For those of us, who are more tech oriented, know better. There's no way I'm buying that piece of crap. If I'm spending $500, I'd rather buy a device with far greater memory and processing speed without annoying limitations like iOS has.

iphone & mac die hard for 3 years. when i first saw the ipad i thought "big iphone". got an ipad a couple of weeks ago, my iphone4 is now a minature ipad. love my pad.

as for motorola? here in the UK anyway, they are a 100th class comms outfit (i know elsewhere they are the main deal), who supplied nothing more memorable than two way radios for the likes of Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada on "cHips".

All that being said, with how much money I've spent in the app store, my next tablet will most likely be another iPad.
Agreed. Some good competition will push for better products, better functionality.

u guys are effin idiots, ive used an ipad before, in fact for a day when my bud made me hack it for him, my bloody iphone 4 can do 20 times more **** than it can, face it, u spent 700 dollars for a bigger iphone without the phone

Who ever wants to wast money on bulls crap go a head but me I'm apple all the way. I tried the galaxy tab it's a little bigger than the psp slower than my iPad 3G on wifi and when I'm on wifi my iPad runs as fast as my MacBook pro. That being said whatever happened to the iPad killer, apples smartphone launched in 07 its 2010 & they worked on it for like 4 years before that, & the 3/4 years they used to develop the product so thats 7 years the compition has to catch up. And to me they need to redesign their touch response cause until they do they're just making noise, it's like apple is Nike & everyone else is pay less shoe stores and when you step out you want Nike Airs on your feet not off name brand shoes. So if your going to buy a new portable tablet don't wast your time or money on copy cats get the original besides you pay for what you want and if you want a winner you want an apple iPad don't believe the hype cause nothings coming close.
I'm wondering when apple releases it's next MacBook pro with touch response and the the Mac AppStore are the haters going to call it a bigger iPad???

This is to the haters out there that are windows & moto & rim dickkk and ball riders. How many times have you broke down because your pc was infected over a movie you downloaded or your smart phone is just plain dumb like you. Playing with someone iPad or iPhone for an hour or two dose not give you a right to knock it or just hate on it. Now this is the crazy part my iPad makes free phone calls and SMS & txt give off my own wifi hot spot hack into your not so smart phone ( every phone that's not an iPhone ) even run the full android os on my iPad. Now until the comp can run Apple IOS on their htc or moto & download apple apps on your htc/moto/windows dumb phone like we can do on an iPhone just shut the efff up hating cause yo money ain't as long as us apple fans are. It's like the old saying goes real people do what they want and Haters do what they can and I do what I want. Apple Rules

so isn't calling it a giant iphone a compliment considering the enormous success of the iphone? plus it wasn't intended to be anything more than an iphone with more screen real estate for activities like reading digital books and playing games on a bigger screen. so in its simplicity it has succeeded beyond what anyone really expected.

Yeah, I'm not getting why it's calling the iPad a giant iPhone (it is) and then turning around and releasing a giant version of one of its phones, essentially.

      Almost clever, Motorola, almost.

I played with the Galaxy Tab the other day. What garbage. If you're going to compete with anything Apple, make your device more responsive to touch. The iPad almost senses your finger before you feel your finger touch - every other 'touch' device I've ever used has had me bashing my finder around in a circle trying to get it to register.

Motorola does a "me 2" and we are suppose to take them seriously about innovation, ya right. All the cell phone manufactures have become so borg they can't invent anything. Motorola (along with the rest) should be thanking Apple for creating a market to help save their company. They were on their last legs and may still be. It took a computer company to bring about the innovation that they cell phone manufactures couldn't even draw on one of their charts.

To plenty of people it is just a giant phone, but to those same people, this Motorola device will be just a giant android device.
At least try to be technical about it. It has no telephony features so it is not like a phone, more like an enlarged iPod Touch.

Im not a big fan of apple as a brand but since ive had my iphone id never consider another mobile
Make their own OS? Other than apple what hardware maker is successful that makes their own OS? Rim and Nokia? Aren't they hemorrhaging market share? Son Erricson? They used Symbian/UIQ, but realized that didn't work so went with Android. The great thing and at the same time the downfall of Android is that it is too open and carriers and/or vendors can taylor the OS to their liking. WIth apple owning both hardware and iOS they can taylor iOS around their hardware and their hardware around iOS, thus seamless operation.

Well in fact the now called iOS was made for the iPad but Apple put it first into a cell phone and then we see the light for the iPad so basically iPhone users got mini iPad's. Anyway like it both of them :-)

It's when I see people calling others on the forum names that I disregard anything they have to say because that shows how mature they are...seriously, what's the point in calling someone a name?

Everyone has their own reason for buying an iPad, if it works for them then awesome! I enjoyed mine while I had it!
