  • 91% of App Developers Prefer iOS over Android/Other OS's

App developers say they would rather code for iOS.

Folks, iOS is very fun to develop for. That's coming from experience; but not only that, from fellow developers as well.

Android developers, as well as existing iOS developers, can agree on one thing: iOS is the preferable platform to develop for. A survey was conducted asking 2,160 Appcelerator developers which platform they most wanted to develop apps for. 91% said they wanted to develop for the iPhone. 88% said they wanted to develop for the iPad. Pretty astounding numbers coming from Android and iOS developers alike, yes?

Android is the world's most popular mobile operating system, but that's because there are more than just a couple Android devices on the market. Apple sells three major devices which have their own subcategory based on their generation. The iPhone 4 is the world's most popular iOS smartphone, followed by the iPad 2 for tablets, and finally iPod touch 4G for entertainment handhelds. It's looking like the iPhone 4S may eventually steal the iPhone 4's thunder. Android on the other hand, has hundreds of devices. Common sense says that teamwork defeats lone work. Hundreds against three, yeah you see where this is going. But even in the scruff of things, you can't walk anywhere without seeing an iOS device somewhere. So Apple isn't doing that bad whatsoever even against the odds.

Developers for Android seem to think that iOS is a more pleasurable platform to develop for. Many of those developing for Android are doing it so that they can have a job. Out of the 50% of Android (and other) developers and 50% of iOS developers; 91% wanted to code for iOS. That's 41% of developers that code for a different platform that would rather be coding for iOS. In that respect, could Apple have the chance to actually be doing better than they are already? iOS 5 has already taken a small chunk away from the Android population, as The Loop reports.

Only time will tell which operating system will stay around and which one will bite the dust. But as this is a very hot topic that will cause hair-trigger fan boy zealots to attack any threats to their brand name, I'll leave it to the commentators to debate this out!

So what is your preferred mobile operating system? Share in the comments below!

I agree! Everybody is so worried about criticizing the staff. Get over it. Everybody makes mistakes. In my opinion, these people who go around in forums and find reasons to post something negative about another comment or article are just releasing all the pent up aggression they have from being bullied, tormented, criticized, and insulted in real life. These are the people who make up the population of mentally & physically weak people (NOT making fun of these people, just stating the obvious) so they have to get on the Internet and and point others mistakes in order to make themselves feel better. Maybe, just maybe if they get on a forum and try to make others look weak then they can internally feel better about themselves. It's quite sad. The staff do not have to do nearly as much as they do nor do they have to be staff at all so show some respect to these generous people. I've said this multiple times in other posts but go to some other forums or dev IRC rooms and see how you're treated and how much help and info you get. Modmyi is great and NEVER give anybody a hassle for help. Grow up and be grateful that you can get basically all the iDevice info you need here.

So he asked you to calm down and now you're just going to spread this crap thread to thread?

Another thing, he actually takes the time to try and clarify things in the comments to users. Many writers will not take the time to comment and answer questions. Lay the hell off.
I'm spreading it?? He asked me to calm down?? What are you talking about??

I have not been involved in any of the arguments, and I have been respectful and given only constructive criticism. I am sick of them, and I am pointing out a big reason why these arguments continue to escalate, hoping it will change.

The last few articles have been great articles, and interesting topics, and i look forward to the discussion as much as the article itself. But the comments have been completely ruined lately, and he (anthony) is fueling it. Sorry if you dont agree, but he is.

Imagine what the comments of a Messany article would look like if Messany decided to take on every user who criticized him. It would not be pretty....all discussion of the topic would stop, and arguments would go on and on. Unfortunately, this is what is happening.

Im not saying Anthony should never communicate with us, or never defend himself or his beliefs, I just believe he needs to be a bit more selective when picking his battles.

Sorry if you think pointing this out makes me a "child". I'm just hoping pointing it out will help stop it, so we
      can actually have real discussion.

Android nada ugly UI, different phones with modified Android on them, different res screens, different hardware etc, all these make it hard to make a app work on all Android devices. Also App Store is a beast but it like Market is 90% junk.
