  • Sn0wbreeze v2.8b11 Now Available Supports iOS 5.0.1

    Sn0wbreeze v2.8b11 Now Available!

iOS 5.0.1 was Apple's answer to the battery problems plaguing iOS 5. Although, it has been reported that iOS 5.0.1 doesn't seem to be fixing the problem at all. iOS 5.0.1 also plugs up some important jailbreak exploits that hackers are working on using to develop the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. Since it plugs up those exploits, Pod2g recommended not upgrading so that you can remain on the firmware that will support the untethered jailbreak when it comes out. If, however, you're too late and you've installed iOS 5.0.1 and are having trouble downgrading, you can still have a tethered jailbreak for your device. iH8sn0w tweeted just a few minutes ago that sn0wbreeze has been updated to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1.

Sn0wbreeze 2.8b11 can be downloaded here. This jailbreak tool only supports Windows and is not for Mac. Mac users can use redsn0w to jailbreak their iOS 5.0.1 device; Windows users can choose between this tool or redsn0w. Like I mentioned in the last news article that I wrote about sn0wbreeze, I feel that sn0wbreeze is an easier tool to use because of the pictures and better directions which take you step by step. This is a great way for new jailbreakers to understand how jailbreaking works. It seems more simple than redsn0w. While redsn0w has less steps involved, it doesn't really explain anything, you generally need to read a guide to learn how to use it, or have previous experience. Yet with sn0wbreeze you can be totally new to jailbreaking and understand what it's telling you to do because of the visuals.

The GUI looks the same as before:

    Whats New in Version 2.8b11?
    • Supports iOS 5.0 (9A334)/5.0.1 (9A405)
    • Fixed iBooks sandbox crashing issues (as of 2.8b9).
    • Fixed location services issues with iPhone 3GS users running the iPad baseband (as of 2.8b9).
    • Re-added iPad baseband install option to iPhone 3GS.
    • Tethered devices are booted via iBooty which is extracted to the Desktop after running sn0wbreeze.

Old bootrom iPhone 3GS's can still have the untethered jailbreak. Anything newer is still tethered. The whole pastie by iH8sn0w can be read here.

Right now simply plug your phone in, run itunes, on the phone screen do a shift + click on restore and point it to the 5.0 IPSW, it should still verify with Apple's servers, mine did about 10 minutes ago.

There should be a "Tethered" jailbreak new section only because this junk is posted to often! Come on with the untethered jailbreak!!!

How do I get a 5.0 since when I plug-in and am being prompted to download/update to 5.1?

      I am on 4.3.3 on a iP4.

This is great news, but it means when I get my 4S it will come with 5.0.1 , who knows if 5.3.3 I'm %#* broke!

Don't use this version of snowbreeze to restore to 5.0.1, it gives a white screen after the restore. It does work for 5.0 but there is a bug needs to be fixed for 5.0.1

I did hold off on upgrading my 3GS though. ? If you have 5.0 Ipswich saved, can't you restore to it at anytime? Do you need an Internet connection to restore if you already have the firmware and iTunes installed on your pc?
RedSn0w enables multitouch - no need tu upgrade. You will not be able to restore to 5.0 until a method to bypacethe nonce is found. It is far better to make sure you are on 5.0 (not 5.01) now, while Apple are still signing it.

It is unlikely an untethered JB will be released for 5.01

The Dev team are very busy actually doing the work so donor have time to answer questions on blogs / forums which is why they asked me tohelpin the first place. This story broke when MN knew I was asleep so he obviously thought he had to step in.

I'm a fan of redsn0w and snowbreeze. Although I prefer redsn0w over snowbreeze.

      Redsn0w
+ Powerful AIO tool. (thanks to the added "Extra" option menu.)
+ Simple and fast (straight to the point.)

      Sn0wbreeze
      + More friendly user interface.
+ Have the option to play Pac-man.
      + Easily shareable.
      - Require a full restore.
      - Need to make a custom firmware in order to enter "PWN DFU" mode. (no option to skip)

And with sn0wbreeze u can keep older basebands! Still not an option with redsn0w if u use a windows based pc!

      I update-jailbreak with snowbreeze to 5.0,
will I be able to have an untethered jailbreak,
or do I have to do a new jailbreak with Redsnow?

So long as you get to 5.0 ( not 5.01) you should be OK
