    Apple touted the iPhone 4S’s improved camera during the phone’s announcement highlighting its improved lowlight performance, 1080p video capture, and improved speed.

    They even have a commercial dedicated to showing off the new camera.

    Well, Belkin is the first accessory maker to take advantage of the iPhone’s improved camera by creating a physical shutter release for the iPhone 4S. The accessory leaked via the FCC and their notoriously juicy filings.

    The filing reveals nothing in terms of price or availability, but it does outline how the device works. The controller triggers still or video recording via Bluetooth and the LiveAction app and even houses a detachable stand for propping up the iPhone. It will work with all iPhone's running the LiveAction app.

    Belkin’s accessory paired with their LiveAction app brings photo enthusiasts once step closer to turning the iPhone 4S into a dedicated camera. The ability to adjust aperture, shutter speed, ISO, still need to be addressed, but the whole interchangeable lens thing has already been addressed, albeit in a cumbersome manner. It will be interesting to see how soon this accessory makes its way to shelves, and see if there is a market for the device.

      Looks like another industry has to watch out for apple now, theyre taking over digital cameras too.

      This is actually kind of cool. Depending on the price, this might be something worth getting (although I find Belkin's accessories for iPhone to be largely overpriced and shoddy quality - pay $30 for the thing and have it fall apart in your pocket a few months later).

      I think you are right on the money here, but let's be honest. There are a lot of phones with really nice cameras on the market now. I think smartphones in general are huge competitors against point and shoot cameras. I know I haven't had a point and shoot since I've had a smart phone. There simply hasn't been a need.

      Not really, every phone has a camera these days but iPhone users are the only ones that think theirs are so great they need to share it to everyone under the sun. If anything thinks a phone camera will ever replace a standalone camera, even a basic point and shoot camera they win the title of stupidest person alive.

      for myself and many other people i know with iphones (especially the 4s) either does not have, or never uses there point and shoot camera, because of the quality you get out of the camera right on our phones.

      Even, my girlfriend asks me to take pictures she wants to have in good quality with my phone rather than her 8 mp camera. I think the point of people saying it will replace a standalone camera means, that for someone who has a point and shoot and one point it will be come to old, and will need to replace it. But why do that when your carrying around something that does the job just as well.

      just how i think about it anyway lol
