  • Wi-Fi Sync - Special Holiday Promotion: $2.99 In Cydia

Tis' the season for Holiday Cheer, and well, Cydia Promotions.

Wi-Fi Sync, developed for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, has had a price slash for the last few days, coming in at $2.99 for the holiday season. Originally $9.99, Wi-Fi Sync is a 3rd party app for Jailbroken users, that allows you to wirelessly sync your iDevice over your Wi-Fi connection with iTunes.

By simply installing the application on your PC, alongside the App available in Cydia, you can forget about the cable and Sync at any time you like. Granted the transfer speeds are a bit slower, it's well worth it if your not into the traditional method. Especially at this price.

What's the catch? This promo ends in two days. It was originally expected to end on December 11th, but the developer has pushed the price slash until December 15th, 2010.

What are you waiting for? Head over to cydia and grab Wi-Fi sync now before this deal runs out!

On a PC with Windows XP. I gave up and uninstalled the software from my PC. It really messed with "normal" syncing via usb. It just took it too long over Wifi. Eh well, stuck with the app now, will wait for PC software update

Um, are you stupid? The person said it's uncompatible with the iPT4, that has nothing to do with the iPad

I also just bought it at the sale price, but it's hit or miss if it works. When it does it's awesome. When it doesn't it throws iTunes errors about not being able to connect or sync. I've uninstalled for the moment and will wait in hopes 2.0 is a better version.

Yes it does. I've used it. But you have to have backgrounder too. Once you leave the WiFi sync app, it'll disconnect. But w/backgrounder installed, you can leave, synchronicity will do it's thang, and you're good to go.

On the other hand not everyone fits the same usage scenario as you, and dismissing their opinions as "worthless" because of this is ignorant at best. I'd remind you that there are many people who sync their iDevices less than once a month. Personally, I only hook it up to my computer to load a new firmware or jailbreak it. My contacts/calendar already auto-sync OTA whenever a change is made, and I stream my media through AirVideo. I don't need to purchase this app to realize it wouldn't benefit me.

It's really a good app if you don't have a lot to sync or if you have a fast Internet connection. Well worth it for $3. I'm syncing now and typing this and it's not to shabby. I wonder if it would work faster if you did it through an ad-hoc network.

If you are going to quote me, next time quote my entire post, not just a snippet. For example, you said,"There seems to be a small group of people who benefit from the ability to sync their device at a slower rate from near their computer."

In my post I mentioned how it works great for me while I am in the garage or backyard. I also own a 2 story home( I DID NOT POST THAT). I am nowhere close to my computer. My wifi is great though.

Then you say,"On the other hand not everyone fits the same usage scenario as you, and dismissing their opinions as "worthless" because of this is ignorant at best. I'd remind you that there are many people who sync their iDevices less than once a month."

If someone is only syncing once a month, then why would they even need "wifi Sync?" In fact, if someone is only syncing once a month, their opinion on rather this App is worth it or not is voided! They wouldn't get much use out of it, just like they don't get much use out of their cord, unless charging!

If you were buying a gt500 and some idiot wanted to tell you the v6 4.o is just as good the 5.4 4 valve Supercharged V8, would you listen to him? My point is people who know nothing, or haven't tried something shouldn't knock it before they try it.
There is a difference between constructive criticism and ignorance.

You said,"My contacts/calendar already auto-sync OTA whenever a change is made, and I stream my media through AirVideo. I don't need to purchase this app to realize it wouldn't benefit me.[/QUOTE]

I have thought about changing my set up to something similar. What are you using? Are you using "mobile me?"

      Thanks
      Tom

I am thinking the people with problems are using windows. Maybe the soon to be released update will address this if it is truly an issue.
