  • Wi-Fi Sync - Special Holiday Promotion: $2.99 In Cydia

Tis' the season for Holiday Cheer, and well, Cydia Promotions.

Wi-Fi Sync, developed for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, has had a price slash for the last few days, coming in at $2.99 for the holiday season. Originally $9.99, Wi-Fi Sync is a 3rd party app for Jailbroken users, that allows you to wirelessly sync your iDevice over your Wi-Fi connection with iTunes.

By simply installing the application on your PC, alongside the App available in Cydia, you can forget about the cable and Sync at any time you like. Granted the transfer speeds are a bit slower, it's well worth it if your not into the traditional method. Especially at this price.

What's the catch? This promo ends in two days. It was originally expected to end on December 11th, but the developer has pushed the price slash until December 15th, 2010.

What are you waiting for? Head over to cydia and grab Wi-Fi sync now before this deal runs out!

yes you can! However, I am on a Mac so that may be where the difference is. As soon as I open the App on my phone, I tunes automatically opens itself up, then it syncs very smoothly.

I am unsure, but I believe on windows, I tunes needs to already be open.

Couldn't agree more! At first it seemed like an amazing idea and app and now after uninstalling every trace of it I have no clue what I was thinking! It isn't on "sale" for $3 because it's Xmas that's for sure!

2, it refused to work with the cable after installing it.

So I had to remove the PC program just so I could sync with the cable again.

No thanks. Way too slow and buggy for me to try again. I'm just glad I tried the free version first.

lol dude you sure thats not your failbox 7?

na but the windows program does have bugs i think

What i can see this good for is IPAD as it cant charge from your computer.. it could be in the room charging without being connected to the comp.. its kind of a pain to have to do one to charge and one to sync. soon as 4.2 is untehtered this will go on the ipad for sure

Y'know, even if this was the most perfect program ever written, I've never thought to myself, "Oh my God, this cord thing is a pain in the *** -- if only there was a more time-consuming way to sync without that cord, even though I'm sitting 2 feet from my computer tower."

Doesn't work on iTunes 10.1. I had to remove right after purchase just so cable sync would work again. Until bugs are looked after. 2.99 is much for problematic software. And I hate to do it but he has a week to atleast admit it has a problem with 10.1. Then I will complain to paypal. Cause his parents can put him through college. Not all of us.

Yes, I cant justify buying wifi sync when i sync at my desk and my USB cable is right there. You can Buy a New USB cable at TJMaxx for $5.

Paypal won't do anything I already tried. Saurik needs to do something the **** doesn't work! He is stealing from everyone with this half assed app. I mean how hard could it be to get the basic functions working?

I would warn iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4th gen users away from this until it's updated.

I would also warn Windows user to stay away until the PC part of the app is updated.

It ISN'T compatible with the lastest iTunes (v10.1.0.54).

The PC app causes a conflict with the AppleMobileDevice service in Windows and won't allow you to use the wireless syncing. It locks up iTunes, it destroys the ability to sync via USB cable.

The creator provides ZERO support for his work. I have lodged several bug reports over the last month. Have not heard anything back! He occasionally visits his support forum and deletes all the posts to make it look like there are no issues.

      You have been warned!

I've used it, tried to use, tried to reinstall etc, etc! The PC version is compatible w/ Windows 7 (ran it in XP compatibility mode), however it's definitely not finalized I'd say.

I've tried to sync some songs via iTunes 10 to my 3G and only 1 out of 5 songs made it over. I tried again and the thing would take forever to pair up so I gave up!

Here's hoping this get's perfected and updated, as I like the idea of just placing the phone next to the computer and having it sync!

This partly responds to your question about why to bother with wireless sync:

To expand on that, just think that not everyone keeps their iDevice in the same room as the computer they sync with.

In my case, my computer is not near my bed. I dock the phone at night next to my bed [power only], get up in the morning and go. If I forget to connect it to the computer, I don't get my podcasts, etc. I also have an iPad which is usually in the living room that usually sits in a dock when not in use. Same problem there: my iPad doesn't get synced if I don't plan it in advance of going anywhere. Also, my wife refuses to sync anything which means her phone and iPad usually don't get synced for weeks at a time.

A wireless sync means that all I need to worry about is power and everything else gets synced/backed up. By having it happen wirelessly I also have the potential of having it scheduled. Scheduling it to sync before I wake up means that everything would be ready to go and I don't have to stand around waiting for it to finish syncing (and my wife doesn't have to wait on me when we're trying to go somewhere.)

It's 2010 -- almost 2011. Apple should have had this out before the end of the year. Wireless syncing should 'just work.'

Like I read before.. On windows 7 it works but syncing any other Idevice with the cable I get an error message.. Uninstalled the server nd revolted and all was ok.
Here's hoping an update fixes this. Being able to charge and sync without the iPad at the same time would be nice

In hindsight, this should have been called 'a holiday money grab'. This 'special holiday price cut' was, in theory, in anticipation of a new version coming out.

Here we are, over a month later and where's the new version?

My sympathies to those that got suckered, are having problems and still waiting for the new version to fix things.
If anything, this is the kind of scenario that adds credence to the pirater's arguement of 'pirate-before-purchase'. No one likes spending $10 for software that doesn't work significantly error-free, with no support, no updates and no chance of a refund.

Thankfully, my employer has some kinda of discount with MS and I can get Office for $9.99;, as many gripes as I might have about it, price isn't one of them.

Well I'm expecting nothing. I think we can kiss 2.99 good bye. It was never about the 3 bucks its the principal of the thing. Grab another 3-5000 bucks for xmas. Nothing but a crook.
