Apple Expands In-Store Purchase Pickup to New York City
On October 26th, MMi reported
that Apple had officially initiated its new pilot program that allows customers to pick up orders placed through the online Apple Store in one of the company's brick and mortar retail stores. As of last week, however, this option was only available in the San Francisco, California region.
Today we can confirm that the program has been extended to Apple retail stores in the New York City area. The Apple website continues to tease a more widespread availability of this option, stating that in-store pickup is "coming soon to a U.S. Apple Store near you."
Identical to how the program works in San Francisco, in-store pickup lets customers in New York City purchase their product online and then pick it up at the store. Customers also get a Personal Setup session for their product. What's more, any item listed as "Available now" can be reserved and picked-up within one hour. And if you can't make it yourself, the site will allow you to name a proxy that Apple can release the product to.
Just in time for the holiday season, New Yorkers will find that the program conveniently allows shoppers to purchase custom configured Macs, engraved and gift-wrapped products, and a full slate of accessories.
As always, we will keep you posted on this new in-store pickup option as it becomes more widely available.
