Same here, would love an unlock on the iPHone 4 running 4.1

thats would mean people without SHSH blob of former Firmware would be able to downgrade their BB ??

That'll be nice when it comes out, but 4.2 only iPhone isn't a necessity. It'll be more if a convenience for my iPad though!!

yeah for sure. im not downgrading on the iOS nor the BB on the 3GS anyway cuz it works like a charm. so the way to go is forward anyway

and i think my 3G will run 4.1 for the next time beeing. if i could i would downgrade back to 3.1.3 but no shsh :/ people say its way faster on 3.1.3

The new version of Cydia is very fast. There's a story here about it and tells you how to install it.

My tethered jb crashed this morning on my ip4 on 4.2. I got stuck in emergency mode. Just restored my phone at work now I'm stuck with a plain phone all day. Anyone else have this issue?

Anyone help out with this? What package was he using for console access on the device. Probably missed the boat on this, but was unaware there were any console packages for FW 4.x +

No disrespect, but there's only a few of u that were crazy enough to install a tethered jailbreak, especially when you were warned that this would happen. I hope you get an answer though.

On a positive note, how was the performance? Is it worth upgrading to at all?

That app is called iSSH and it's the bomb!!! It's a little pricey, but very full featured and worth it to have good CLI access.

I knew the risk. Just curious if anyone else has had that issue. I don't mind it. And I highly appreciate the dev team for all their work. I remember the good o days of jb my 2g in terminal on my mackbook pro.

If anyone notices this I had a very simple question to ask just out of curiosity. First of all I'm using an iPhone 4 with Firmware 4.1 jailbroken with redsn0w 0.9.4 (I believe) I also have SHSH blobs saved from 4.1, 4.2b3, 4.2.1 etc.. If I were to update and jailbreak (tethered) to 4.2.1 using the latest redsn0w, would I be able to later when it's released, jailbreak 4.2.1 untethered? or would it be more complicated then that in the long run? Basically what would make it worth jailbreaking tethered to 4.2.1 for me?

My i4 is still running 4.0. I have been putting updating off as I have my phone the way that I want it and I dont want to have to redo my themes...I might just do the 4.2.1 after muscle's JB is released.

Yes, it is perfectly okay to update and run the tethered jailbreak for now. The worst case scenario would be that you'd simply have to restore to a stock 4.1 or 4.2.1 and then rejailbreak it when the untethered option is released.

As far as what's worth it to jailbreak tethered, that's really up for you to decide. It isn't a huge deal, being tethered that is, especially if you're like me and tend to have your nearby the majority of the time. I have my iPad on the tethered jb and have mobile substrate based apps on it (that is what requires you to re jb after each boot) and so far I have not had to rejailbreak it at all other than when i've installed new cydia packages that require a reboot to finish installing. The only thing stopping me from doing it to my iPhone 4 is that i'm still on bb 1.59.0 and want to keep it unlockable simply for future resale value. As soon as there's a way to update to 4.2.1 while preserving the baseband I will update in a heartbeat, even if it's tethered.
