Apple Quietly Refreshes iPad 2 Smart Covers
On Monday, Apple updated its iPad 2 Smart Cover line. Although the changes are largely minimal, they are noticeable.
Perhaps the most obvious change is the omission of the orange polyurethane cover, which, presumably, wasn't a big seller. In its place is a new dark gray Smart Cover. The remaining variety of polyurethane Smart Covers (blue, green, pink, and light gray) will remain the same, although the colors are said to be more vibrant now.
The biggest change to the product line comes via the addition of color to the interior microfiber lining. Previously, no matter the color of your Smart Cover, the interior was the same unremarkable shade of gray. Now the inside color matches the outside. Apple's product page has already been refreshed to reflect the change (See above image).
It should be noted, however, that the color tweaks come without a corresponding change in price. Smart Covers are retaining their former price points - That is, polyurethane covers are $39.00 while the higher-end leather covers are $69.00.
