Custom Avatars Coming to iOS Game Center?
Two freshly discovered patent applications at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office this week indicate that Apple may soon roll out the ability of iOS Game Center users to create customized digital avatars. And from the looks of it, the avatars will be surprisingly true to life in all their cartoonish glory.
Discovered by our friends at Apple Insider, the patent filings - "Avatar Editing Environment
" and "Personalizing Colors of User Interfaces
" - leave very little to the imagination with regard to what Apple is trying to accomplish here. As the illustrations demonstrate in ample detail, users would be given an opportunity to create custom avatar characters while inside of Game Center.
In order to create a life-like avatar, users would begin with a nondescript human figure and progressively add the features - like skin and hair color, eyes, nose, mouth, etc. - that will make the characters resemble them as much as possible. The patent filings, however, did suggest that Apple could also establish automatic avatar creations should the manual route not be for you.
With the obvious goal of having the digital avatars represent players within the digital confines of the iOS Game Center, Apple will similarly bolster the look of user profiles, which would naturally sport the user's personal avatar and showcase their vital gaming stats.
