  • Apple's Servers Slammed With Traffic Causing iOS 5 Internal Error For Many While Updating

Twitter is blowing up with complaints of users not being able to update to iOS 5 because of an "Internal Error."

    Saurik tweeted:

To anyone getting "An internal error occurred." (3200) while installing iOS 5.0, Apple's servers are swamped, and failing half the requests.
The message appears to be popping up for users when installing iOS 5. We've reached out to Apple and so far they have no comment on the matter, but as Saurik tweeted Apple's servers "are swamped" and many users have remained unsuccessful after multiple tries. However a number of possible solutions appear to have popped up.

Gvcayetano tweeted that he was able to update to iOS 5 after backing up his iPhone, rebooting his Mac, and then trying to restore his iPhone using the iOS 5 package.

Another tweet by StephMurphyy claims to have solved the update problem by unchecking the "Sync Music" option in iTunes.

Other users have had success simply restarting their phones and trying to update again. It appears Apple's servers are taking a beating by the demand. We haven't been able to confirm a solution for users across the board yet, but this does seem to be a wide-spread problem. New angry tweets keep popping up by the second, complaining about iOS 5 update problems. Right now the best advice is to keep trying.

Let us know if you have had any problems updating to iOS 5 and if you have any solutions for users struggling to update.

It could be a long time - HOURS before they get restored to your phone currently.

If you can't be without your phone completely, I suggest you wait till late tonight / early tomorrow before trying to upgrade.

Apple's current server bog-down: New iOS 5 downloads (800mb x millions), iPhone app restores after update to iOS 5 (dozens to hundreds of apps x millions), iTunes 10.5 download (100mb x millions), new Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 downloads (820mb x millions), iCloud online setups (x millions), iCloud iphone/MAC/PC backups-syncs-restores (megabytes to gigabytes x millions). Pretty sure this hasn't been seen before.
Microsoft has sold 300 million licenses for windows 7. That's three times as many as every apple product ever sold according to business insider. Pluss all the updates for office 2010, office 07, vista, etc... Pretty sure it has been seen before. And as I posted, the average iPhone owner won't be updating tonight. More than likely, they sync every few weeks, and will learn about the update then. This shouldn't happen. Apple knows what they have out there, and should plan accordingly. And as I posted earlier, iCloud isn't hosted on apple servers. It's hosted on amazon and Microsoft azure servers, so take all that out of your calculations.

Can someone help me out? I am trying to update to ios 5 and it keeps telling me that my phone cannot be restored. "This device isn't eligible for the request build". I'm on 4.1 and jailbroken.

There are a total of 189 million iOS devices out there and I think you will find most of them would have got home (or woke up depending where you are) and plugged their device into iTunes to sync and got prompted to update, which they would have.

I, like many people, have Auto Windows Update turned off.

Mine worked after a few goes, not the end of the world if it doesn't work right away.

Try resetting network settings. I had few issues like hotspot missing and all. After network reset all is well.

How could you not know? I switched to iPhones with the 3gs and never had anything pre 4.x and this is the most advertised update i've seen. Do your friends live under a rock, or not know how to read?

all you have to do is this
      Code:
      #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
close every IP address for apple, then just open "127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com" after your done installing...i hope that helps

It could be that they are happy with their iPhones, and don't care about adding anything. None of these 10 people are jailbroken either. Or it could be that they are adults with family and don't live and breathe tech blogs.

Says a man on a tech blog. With all the iPhone 5 talk and the passing of Jobs, iOS 5 has been mentioned several times in the media. Although maybe I'm just not an adult and obsess over iPhone talk

I'm almost not sure what worked because I tried so many different things. But first of all i upgraded my iPad 1 (wifi only) successfully. But it took some time, persistence and patience. MBP on Mac OS X 10.7.2 freshly updated today.Initially I tried to do the install with the latest TinyUmbrella 5.00.12 running with fresh SHSH files for the new GM 5.0 software. because the servers were really bogged down, yet I kept getting error 11 and error 1600. I tried regular restore, recovery restore, and DFU restore. still no luck. So I just went to a fresh restore with apple and kept getting server problems. and more errors. Then I started turning off every program open and also close the other 2 mission control screen I had open. and did a fresh restart of my mac. then I was able to connect to the apple servers and upgrade successfully. then JB w the new redsnow

I wasn't including myself in that 10. I've been a computer nerd since I got a TI 99/4a for christmas in 1981 I think it was? The only reason I'm not bothering with updating my 3GS is because my 4s should be here in the next 2 days.

Sipheren, that 189 million iOS devices number... Is that all iOS devices ever sold, or is it just iOS devices capable of running iOS 5?
