  • Apple's Servers Slammed With Traffic Causing iOS 5 Internal Error For Many While Updating

Twitter is blowing up with complaints of users not being able to update to iOS 5 because of an "Internal Error."

    Saurik tweeted:

To anyone getting "An internal error occurred." (3200) while installing iOS 5.0, Apple's servers are swamped, and failing half the requests.
The message appears to be popping up for users when installing iOS 5. We've reached out to Apple and so far they have no comment on the matter, but as Saurik tweeted Apple's servers "are swamped" and many users have remained unsuccessful after multiple tries. However a number of possible solutions appear to have popped up.

Gvcayetano tweeted that he was able to update to iOS 5 after backing up his iPhone, rebooting his Mac, and then trying to restore his iPhone using the iOS 5 package.

Another tweet by StephMurphyy claims to have solved the update problem by unchecking the "Sync Music" option in iTunes.

Other users have had success simply restarting their phones and trying to update again. It appears Apple's servers are taking a beating by the demand. We haven't been able to confirm a solution for users across the board yet, but this does seem to be a wide-spread problem. New angry tweets keep popping up by the second, complaining about iOS 5 update problems. Right now the best advice is to keep trying.

Let us know if you have had any problems updating to iOS 5 and if you have any solutions for users struggling to update.

Thanks, that at least got it back to a more consistent recovery mode state.

Looks like I have a brick for now though until Apple sort their servers out!

Apple truly have become the new Microsoft. Or maybe that should be RIM.
Do you have any idea the kind of numbers you're talking about? This is all going on at once. People syncing to iCloud will all be spread out, and not everyone will be using it either.

I don't know if this will work for all but try and change your host file to point to 127.0.0.1. That seems to work for me.

You don't need to do DFU from GM to 5.0. I did it just in case there was anything different about the two. Just plug it in and instead of update, click Restore. It did take around 10 tries due to Apple not being able to sign it... but worked eventually. When I did my iPad2, it worked on the first try.

Jeez what's the big rush?? Just wait till tonight or tomorrow or something. I'm too busy to deal with this right now, I might try updating this weekend, or whenever untether JB with sn0wbreeze comes out to preserve 05.13.04 BB on my 3GS. I personally like to avoid release day for this exact reason right here. The servers/website/whatever is gonna crash. You know it's going to happen. So why not just wait a bit and avoid the hassle?

The user on ModMyi are correct. Just keep trying over and over. I find it to be easier if you just do restore, but be sure to back up your information so this way you can retrieve it once it is restored. Thank you fellas.

Tell me when the last time MS or RIM's entire user base is downloading a firmware file 600-900MB plus the entire Mac user base downloading OSX 10.7.2 775MB PLUS all the other traffic they're getting from normal use. The answer would be NEVER and if they ever did they would crash rather than just slow down. This amount of server traffic is only something MS could dream of... but no one is out there hitting the download button on hundreds of millions of Windows phones (b/c not that many exist lol) along with hundreds of millions more downloading a new version of Windows.

Go home and study the sheer magnitude of what you're talking about before making any more ridiculous claims.
