  • Apple "Smoked the Competition" in Quality, Reliability

Apple got top honors for quality and reliability in a new survey, garnering high praise for its desktops, notebooks and smartphones. PC World talked to 79,000 people for its annual "Reliability and Service Survey," and found that Apple - along with ASUS, HTC, and Canon - got the highest ratings, with Research in Motion, Dell and HP being panned by users.

"Apple once again smoked the competition," PC World's story began. Apple got high marks in nearly every category, with the only "average" scores having to do with MacBook failures and the iPhone 4 antenna issue. Apple support was highly-rated, with just 8 percent of MacBook users had problems which support couldn't solve, contributing to a success rate "significantly lower" than the industry average.

"Can Apple do no wrong?" PC World asks rhetorically. "Indeed, 2010 was a remarkable year for the world's highest-valued tech company," noting its success in introducing the iPad and earning record profits, and adding that Apple "won the trifecta by smoking the competition in our reader poll."

IDC computer analyst Bob O'Donnell told PC World that Apple's success is due to "a combination of having high-quality hardware--you pay a premium for it--and a software experience that's more straightforward." In addition, Apple's support also adds to the perception of quality. "People literally walk in with their systems, and the [Genius Bar] guy sits there and says, 'Oh, yeah, you've got to do this, this, and this,'" O'Donnell said. "It gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling: 'They're taking care of me.' Nobody has anything close to that on the PC side."

Rim needs to die. They haven't done anything major to improve the phone experience for the customers.

Well. ... I'm no expert but in that past few years i have owned and used 3 different iphones plus as part of my job, our company
provides blackberrys. On my second blackberry now. I say it all the time, why would anyone actually by a blackberry. I hate using the rim phone.

So like i said, not an expert just an average user

You can't be serious. Apple has been riddled with huge flaws in their "quality" hardware and software. They are trying to move too fast with a poor quality assurance program. But hey...at least when my phone fails it looks good doing it on the retina display.

Perhaps a few yrs ago. Our company switched to iPhone plans and it's great. I have noticed at several board mtgs that many are or have already switched.

Just checked it. Yup some problems. But... Have you seen the competitors forums? Wow. They must have a 40" pipe to handle all the bandwidth.

Maybe it is just me. I bought the MBP. Bad motherboard. Sent it in, got it back, three days later the hard drive fails. Ok cool. I run with the 27" iMac. Bad screen. It was wavy like when you see people videoing a T.V. that is powered on. The great part about that experience? They kept 15% of my money when I returned it. The only product I walked into knowing I would have an issue with is the iPhone 4. The reception issue is not a big deal for me because I always use a case. But. Apple released this on the masses knowingly. I won't delve into their software issues.

Ya having to wrap my phone in a case just to call is really great piece of quality right there, and with Apple saying "your holding it wrong" for an excuse for their flaw is a great form of reliability right there. Please just crawl back into your rock.
