    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJfDTOnnSJU]YouTube - PhotoAlbumsPlus[/ame]

SpiritOfLogic, the devs behind iRealSMS and PwnTunes, now have a slick new tweak to the Photos app up on Cydia. PhotoAlbums+ allows you to create, manage and password-protect photo albums right on your jailbroken iDevice, without having to connect to iTunes, download them all, and manage them on your computer. The tweak uses familiar iOS screen elements and gestures and plays nice with any app that uses the Photos interface.

The tweak allows you to create new custom photo albums from inside the native Photos app, using a + button that now appears at the top of the Albums list. It works just like Photos in how it lets you choose which photos or videos to move out of the default Camera Roll album into the new custom albums, or move from one custom album to another. You just tap the thumbnails of the pictures you want to distribute, and tap 'Move' to file the photos on your iDevice however you want. Another nice addition is the ability to password-protect your album by clicking a lock that appears when you create a new album and specifying the password. To delete an album, swipe across the album in the listing, and all the photos in the album are moved back to the default Camera Roll album.

What's nice is that the tweak also works perfectly with other apps that hook into Photos in iOS, so when you want to upload pics to Facebook, for example, your albums will still be organized and password protected in exactly the same manner. PhotoAlbums+ is $2.99 from Cydia.

I have an iPhone 3Gs 32GB and rebooted right after reading the above post. No issues whatsoever.

Can anyone tell me what the path is to the PhotoAlbum+ folders? I wanna get the photo from the iTunes-created folders into the new ones.

Edit - Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the photos remain in the .../DCIM/xxxAPPLE folder. So are the files physically moved from Camera Roll to folders or are the folders virtual with metadata?

I have rebooted several times without any issues. iPhone 4, 4.1

After purchasing this tweak, I find it marginally useful. I mean it's cool to be able to finally 'move' your pics to folders BUT these folders do not sync with iTunes. There is at least one other issue which makes me uncomfortable, for example:

The ad on Cydia says you can access the pics via USB connection. This is partly true. This tweak 'moves' your pics to subdirectories in the /DCIM/ folder. In a nutshell, the tweak makes subfolders in /DCIM/ and hides the folders in the iPhone UI. If you browse the iPhone directories from a PC or Mac, you'll see the folders that the tweak creates. Problem is that the naming of the folders created by this tweak have no relation to the folder naming convention on your iPhone. For example, I found 800AAAAA, 801AAAAA, 802AAAAA, etc. Absolutely not intuitive in terms of moving pics in/out of these folders, especially if you wanted to migrate your 'legacy' pics from the 'stock' photo folders into the tweak folders.

Im glad I bought the app. I'm also glad it was only $2.99 or I'd really feel ripped off.

Nice integration into the original Photos app. The look and feel of the tweak are in line with what we've come to expect in iPhone apps. I look forward to seeing this app further refined so that its functionality is further integrated so that not only can the iTunes folders be used and synced, but the security functionality can also be applied to those folders.

      same story for me!
and i have another strange thing: my pics in photo library aren't visible, there is a big black shape. Only the new ones that i take do appear!Even after restoring...

i wonder if i can now install it to fix that without risking another apple loop?
Please could you tell me if the last update fixes both the problems or only wallpaper security issue?

Some clarification for those asking: No file moving is going on here. I've been talking to SpiritOfLogic about this tweak for the past several days.

iPhone photos are managed with a library database much like music is on the phone. This app never moves any files. Instead, it modifies that database to create what are basically multiple camera rolls, and allows you to assign the pictures and videos you've taken to those camera rolls.

In addition to on-phone photo management and separation, it has the added advantage of creating additional folders inside the DCIM folder. (These are all virtual anyway, part of the USB camera spec, and don't really exist on the device's folder heirarchy.) Since you now have "multiple camera rolls", instead of the normal single 800A000 (or whatever) folder, now you will have several similarly-numbered folders.. one for each album you've created. Unfortunately, there is currently no way for him to rename these folders to your custom Album names.. though I asked and he did subsequently try. I believe they're part of a low-level spec he can't change.

Regardless, if you are only creating a few categories like Wallpaper and Videos, this will allow for easy on-phone organization which will be reflected by these different camera roll DCIM folders on PC. If you also have PwnTunes installed, this provides one extra ability - you are able to copy pictures directly TO the Camera Roll. Placing files from your computer into any camera album folder will dump them in the Camera Roll of your phone. From there, they can be properly moved to an album if you like, and will subsequently appear that way on your PC. Pictures can only be moved between albums ON THE PHONE, but album organization is retained when viewing from computer.

Mac users, you will not see added iPhoto benefits. This organization is only viewable in the manner a Sony camera's DCIM folder would be viewable, per the USB photo accessory spec. Moving photos into albums will not affect organization in iPhoto, and this tweak will not affect (and thus will not interfere) with iTunes syncing at all. I don't believe photos synced TO the phone (not taken via the phone) can be organized. I am not positive on this, but I believe only photos and videos which are currently in your camera roll can be moved into these albums. If an album is deleted or PhotoAlbums+ is uninstalled, the photos simply fall back into the Camera Roll.

Hope that helps. I can try to answer any further questions if you like.

$4.99 just to create photo albums on your phone? Lol if you think that's fair than we really are deprived. That should be a default functionality. It is a great tweak, but for $4.99... Nope!

Its $2.99... you must be looking at the wrong package.
and its value is subject to its usefulness to the individual. If you dont use the camera on the iPhone that much then it wont be of much use to you... I myself travel often and take lots of pictures. So I have over 500 pictures in my camera roll from Chicago, Dallas, this past Halloween, Thanksgiving etc.... It was a mess trying to find a particular image. Now I can easily organize these images.

Can you change a already created folder to have a password protect on it?

Also, would be nice to be able to organize folders after they are created. Like move folders up or down...keep movie folders together and what not.

      Great tweak forsure!!

^ it's $3.00.. You seriously had to "try" it?

This article tells you exactly what it does and even shows you a video on how to use it.

Don't be a D-bag. Support the guy who put work into making this app for us.

And yes, it works on 4.0.1 if you are not stealing the app obviously.
