  • redsn0w 0.9.6beta5 Out - Tethered Jailbreak for 4.2.1 on Older Devices
redsn0w 0.9.6beta4 was just recently announced, and beta5 is now out giving both Windows and OSX users the ability to flash the iPad 06.15 baseband on iPhone3G or iPhone3GS. (why?).

This release jailbreaks iPhone3G, older iPhone3GS, and non-MC iPod touch 2G. It also assists 3G and 3G[S] users with baseband 05.14 or 05.15 who have been stuck without an unlock upgrade their baseband to 06.15 in order to use the new ultrasn0w which was just released. DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU NEED TO. More on that here.

A much upgraded Cydia is also included in this release, which we'll be writing a full story on in the morning - a ton of great improvements thanks to saurik and chpwn.

yeah... I kind of found this same story on thanksgiving night... but other than that I can't wait till an untethered JB is released for the iPod touch 4g 4.2.1 or 4.3 (if rumors are true) so I can use the upgraded Cydia.

yes! I dont get tethered jailbreaks because im constantly on a move and using my ipad(alooot) and my ipad haz gotten drained from battery power so i cant take such a risky thing. even if I wasnt on a move so much I will still not get any tethered jailbreaks just in case but ofcourse tethered jailbreaks are still awesome, I mean if you dont want to wait like a month or so for an untethered jailbreak then a tethered JB might be the best way to go, even im considering to do so...im getting so anxious for the new 4.2!!! but i dont really care about multitasking....

Will this beta 5 jailbreak the ipad 4.2.1 also? The post just lists the 3g, 3gs and touch...I am a little confused.

I couldnt jailbreak my ipad on beta 4 for some reason....I would get to the point where cydia would not open...I would go through redsnow and check the box with the boot option...and cydia would still not open. I am hoping I can try with this and have better luck?

      Cheers

About 5 people has asked this question and still there's no answer. How can I get the new Cydia? I'm about to reinstall Cydia and see what happens.

I reinstalled using LimeRain and still got the old Cydia.

You need to use the new redsn0w to install the new cydia.

      Has redsn0w successfully broken a 4G iPhone on iOS 4.1 or 4.2.1

Sent from my iPhone using ModMyi

Yes, on 4.2.1 it is tethered though.

      Hmmmm,

Can you install the new Cydia with RedSnow and still stay on 4.1. I hate to have a tethered 4.2 jb. I would check myself but I'm at work.

Just to clarify I can jailbreak with redsn0w using the 4.1 ispw and I won't be tethered right. What if I am already broken with limera1n. Will redsn0w still work properly.

Good question. I just downloaded redsn0w. It looks like you will definitely have to do a full restore to 4.1 or 4.2 to get the new Cydia. The question is will 4.1 be untethered.

I also tweeted Saurik to see if he can release the new Cydia as an upgrade for all of us on 4.1

Yes, you will have to restore to 4.1 first. Then jailbreak with redsn0w using the 4.1 firmware.

Looks like the best thing to do is wait for an upgrade or wait until 4.2 is untethered. I'm curious to know what the new Cydia looks like.

I don't see why Dev-Team needs to rush out an incomplete solution.

my iphone 3gs: 5.14.02 BB, new bootrom

I have just gone through the whole redsn0w process, step by step through iclarified, Redsn0w finished and the phone started to reboot...

Problem: the boot is stuck on the apple logo and has the "loading" circle right in the middle of the apple as well(not moving).

I've tried rebooting it 2-3x now and it's still the same.

I've just done the "just boot tethered right now" and everything is working--> .
I suppose I didn't read that bottom of the list of steps.

I hope there will be an "Untethered" JB/unlock
