  • Siri's Co-Founder Calls iPhone Assistant A "World-Changing Event"

One of the many anticipated features expected to be announced tomorrow’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event is the iPhone Assistant. The iPhone Assistant is a powerful voice recognition and artificial intelligence tool, which will enable real-time searching and control of iPhones. Apple obtained the technology purchased during the company’s acquisition of Siri in 2010. According to the Siri co-founder Norman Winarsky, the Assistant voice command feature in iOS 5 will be a "world-changing event.”

Winarsky continued by stating the following:

Right now a few people dabble in partial AI-enabled apps like Google Voice Actions, Vlingo, or Nuance Go. Siri was many iterations ahead of these technologies, or at least it was two years ago. This is REAL AI with REAL market use. If the rumors are true, Apple will enable millions upon millions of people to interact with machines with natural language. The PAL [Personal Assistant that Learns] will get things done and this is only the tip of the iceberg. We’re talking another technology revolution. A new computing paradigm shift.
Norman Winarsky, although no longer with Siri is offering his pure speculation based on prior knowledge of the company’s technology believes that inclusion of the Siri artificial intelligence capability is the reason why an iPhone announcement wasn’t made until October (compared to the usual summer timeframe). He noted that “AI takes a lot of computing power” and probably required a bit more testing and refinement. There are several rumors also floating around the net noting that the iPhone Assistant may only run on a next-generation iPhone due to the need for more RAM and a faster processor.

The much anticipated feature must truly be ground-breaking if rumors as well as valid sources of information such as Winarsky are claiming it to be. One thing is for sure, tomorrow’s Apple event will definitely clear the air about the Assistant feature as well as many other speculations and rumors which are being passed around.

Co-Founder overhype something that they sold to Apple...Can't see how this would be desirable, had voice command before and it sucked. I'll most likely shut this thing off, hope Apple put on a off button for it.Hmmmm I wonder what other company overhype a product they developed?Hint: I've never felt ANY of my iPhones (all gen) or iPads (all gen) "magical".

AI has been a let down in the past. This new AI would have to be freakin spectacular for it to mean anything.
A bigger screen, faster, and more power are much higher on my list.

Siri was the big deal though apparently. If you do some quick research into AI conferences that were held, Siri actually was leaps ahead of it's competitors. The iPhone Assistance feature has had alot of buzz and I think for the right reasons. I'm excited to see exactly what it will entail when publicly released!

Tomorrow apple will release "one" phone, it's called "iPhone 4S" it will be the same externally, internally it will be much faster. I have a bad feeling that most of us will be disappointed tomorrow.

I'm on board with that. Why use a giant iPod Touch (iPad) when I don't even have to touch/look at the screen to search the web? Oh right... because a bigger screen is better and much more portable than a smaller one.

sheesh... dump your iPad and get a macbook air - and use your iPhone for portability.

Apple is releasing 2 phones. Sprint will be the only one getting the iPhone 5. AT&T and Verizon will be getting the 4s until late fall according to fox news. It also say the iPhone 5 will be a LTE phone.

And there is also a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Seriously, you think they'd do a major announcement like an iPhone 5 at a small event at the Apple campus with no webcast?

WRONG. APPLE HAS NEVER STATED ANYTHING REGARDING AN IPHONE 5. Whats to be disappointed about? Did they promise you one? No. They they promise a full hardware redesign every year? No. Should they? No.

Said it before and I'll say it again:

      2011: iPhone 4S
      2012: iPhone 5

      Lets see here......

      June 9, 2008: Iphone 3G

      June 9, 2009: Iphone 3GS

Apple needs a major update, same faster phone would be a stupid mistake. I have my eye on several other phones in case apple disappoints. It would be retarded for me to stay with an iPhone when there are betters phones out there.

Are you wizard? I have felt the same exact feeling with every iPhone I have owned and hold in my hands. Even after repair, it just feels like magic. I nearly peed my pants when I first touched iPad 2 in the shop. First I was like naah, this isnt so good device but when I touched and I was like oh man.
