  • Apple Resetting iTunes Match Libraries Ahead of iOS 5 Release

Much like they did with iCloud’s system backup service, Apple will be resetting iTunes Match iCloud libraries.

The reset—according to an email sent out to iTunes Match subscribers—will take place Monday September 26 at 10 a.m. PST. The email also describes the move “has become necessary” so Apple can improve the services reliability and overall quality. This is likely a one-time occurrence before the official public launch of the service.

Resetting the service means songs not stored on a user’s hard drive or music devices will be wiped off of Apple’s servers. Users will need to turn off iTunes Match on all of their computers and iOS devices. Apple is kind enough to remind everyone that “as always” they shouldn’t delete the local versions of their music tracks also found in the cloud.

The reset is likely an effort to clear out all the bad code, mismatched tracks, and any other abnormalities Apple has discovered over the course of the beta. The best par though is the little gift Apple gave beta subscribers. As a token of Apple’s appreciation they are awarding users an additional three free months of service with their 12-month subscription.

That's funny, the email Apple sent to me states that the music on my computer won't be affected.

That's correct bc music on your computer is LOCAL... Everything synced or loaded in the cloud will be wiped.

I'm so glad you took the time to tell me my music on my computer is "Local.". Lol. This whole time I thought the music fairy was storing it all for me.

BTW, I think you mistook what I meant. I thought it was funny that the email says my music on my computer won't be affected.
