how far is the Android developers have a problem with the optimization system and applications on different devices. in short, do not guarantee this or just on your device there, some brands will work with the designer as intended, hehe ..

Here is the problem: Android OS is open source. iOS not being open source leads to much greater scrutiny of what apps are being produced and thus generally leads to higher quality apps overall.

Example: on all 4 of my iPhones I have NEVER had it ever crash or had an app force stop itself. Ever.

Example: On the 4 Android phones I've had, there have been force closes once in a while mostly on apps I downloaded from the Android market. Now normally people would say, hey that happens from time to time, how about this. Last night I was using Google maps and it force closed. Boom goes the dynamite!

This is why I hate all news media. Dude spoke his mind and now he's suffering all kinds of speculative ********. Since when is he Apples slave? Since when does the founder of a company have to spew PR crap. I'm so tired of dramatic, over the top ******** in the media. No one can speak their mind anymore without being guilty of some crap they dream up. I refuse to trust any single source for any topic (unless it's sports scores for obvious reasons) and pretty much ignore the world around me until I find the same reports that jive with one another. Most 'news' agencies own another so it gets worse, but jesus christ. Dude said one thing, which is probably true to a point, and everyone is acting like he took a dump on Apples lawn. I highly doubt that. That's completely impossible unless you just buy them as conversation pieces to leave on your coffee table.

The reason why Android is selling better is because Apple chose to limit the iPhone to one carrier in all markets. That is beginning to really cause iPhone sales to suffer. Initially, Apple needed an exclusive deal to market the new phone. Now, in the US, AT&T is the reason why more people don't buy iPhone.

And the reason why the iPhone is still selling for AT&T is because of the Apple Genius bar, which offers a highly-trained technician who knows the device. Try to get any salesperson at any phone store to give you the kind of comprehensive help that the Genius Bar does, and you'll fail each time. I tried that with a Verizon Blackberry once.

Apple needs to leave it's exclusive carriers and begin a breakout into making the iPhone and iPad usable with any carrier.

Meanwhile, at AT&T, insiders tell me they are laying off in droves. I guess to prepare for the Verizon iPhone.

I bought a launch day iphone4. It developed the dreaded "clicking noise". Genius bar said "shucks it happens, just keep your finger on the lock button". This after I showed them non of their abused display models had the problem, and the click wasn't coming from the lock button.

I week late I went back in, complained and just said it was unsat they would treat me like that with such a flaw. Had a new iphone4 in minutes.

If the boys in Cupertino are not careful, iOS could go the way of the (Sony Beta-max) I don’t know how many of you out there remember the Sony Beta-max (iOS), but those were the first VCR’s to come out. Sony owned the technology and they were the only ones making them, and therefore, thought that the rest of the world was going to sit idly by, while Sony racked up the billions, well! The world did not sit by, they went out made (VHS) (Android), so while Sony alone was making Beta-max, the rest of the world was making VHS. I’ll let you guess which format prevailed, to the point where Sony then had to go out and licensed the VHS technology from Matsushita or who ever. It was often said that beta-max was a better format than VHS, but because Sony wanted to keep it all for themselves, IT DIED. If the boys in Cupertino are not careful, iOS could go that same route.

Betamax was MUCH more desirable and wanted by the masses for it's quality but OOPS... the runtime was just a bit too short to put a full length movie on. DOH! The movie industry put everything out on VHS instead, not by their choice exactly. Betamax had no use now. That wasn't popularity, it was economics.

You forget Apple innovate not imitate. It doesn't sit on its duff expecting people to come to it. It's quite keen to drop outdated or soon to be outdated technology from its product lines and introduces new and untested stuff in the process. And the death of betamax didn't kill Sony, and it didn't stop them from producing more closed and idiotic stuff either (memory stick anyone)?

I love it when people try to make analogies without actually researching what they are comparing to.

First, Sony did not attempt to keep Betamax all to themselves. In fact, it was licensed by Sanyo, Toshiba, Pioneer, Murphy, Aiwa, NEC, Zenith, WEGA, and even under store brand names like Sears and RadioShack.

Second, Betamax's major downfall was the fact that Sony used a non-standard video signal to do the recording in camcorders that was only converted to a standard video signal by the player. To edit Betamax recordings, you needed 2 Beta Decks and a Betamovie (Betamax camcorder). In contrast, a VHS camcorder could simply playback video directly to a VCR and editing could be done directly. A VHS camcorder could also be used to play movies directly to a tv/monitor with the proper inputs, making it possible to watch rented movies directly from the camcorder. Which is the better solution, 2 expensive multi-purpose components (VHS camcorder and VCR) or 3 expensive single-purpose components (Betamovie and 2 Beta Decks)?

Finally, you seem to have completely missed an ever-present fact: Apple has had the habit of not licensing its operating system to any other manufacturer for the better part of its existence. Clearly this is a winning business model. Apple's aim is not to dominate the smartphone market, but rather to own a large enough piece to make a pretty penny. Look at all of Apple's business segments - very few of them dominate the market in which they compete, and it is not likely that they ever will.

This statement makes absolutely no sense. Both Betamax and VHS could be licensed by other companies. Neither format was any more or less "open-source" (the term doesn't even really apply) than the other. The runtime limiting factor was cartridge size, Betamax being a smaller cartridge, thus physically unable to record as long as VHS.

My analogy was definitely Ill researched, (My Bad) and you were absolutely correct in your comment, but you left out one small part of the article that you got your information from, which is the point that I was making in the first place, and that is this,

I you don’t think that Apple is trying to dominate all of its markets, Then! I’ll have to disagree with you on that, I think they are, that should be the goal of any self respecting company, to crush and kill their competition,hence, Domination.

We’ll just keep an eye on the Android market-share and see how this whole thing plays out in the coming months.

Their failure was not because they tried to dictate an industry standard, their failure was the attempt itself to dictate an industry standard. You apparently missed the reason why they failed - they failed because they ignored the consumer's needs.

You are also missing one very importance difference between Betamax and iOS - Betamax was a forerunner in its market, whereas iOS entered the smartphone market well after it had already been established. Even if Betamax had been introduced after VHS was already the standard, it would not have been any less of a failure.

Market share is somewhat irrelevant. Android could hold twice iOS' market share, but Apple would still be more profitable. Every device with iOS installed is an Apple device. Devices with Android installed are from multiple manufacturers.

Also keep in mind that a higher market share does not, by any means, mean better or less susceptible to failure.

My comments about Sony and betamax were taken out of context. I never said betamax was closed, but the fact that Sony went on to make closed stuff PS PS2 PSP memory stick etc etc, was my reference. The poster was saying Apple making closed products would be its downfall. All Sony gaming is closed, that was my point, it hasn't stopped them from being one of the best at many products. Now, I have a few things to say about the 8 track......
