  • Jailbreakers Befuddled By MuscleNerd's Mysterious Visit to Apple

There's a great deal of speculation surrounding why the iPhone Dev Team's MuscleNerd recently paid a visit to Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.

With recent news of major tech companies offering jobs and internships to well-known hackers (you may recall Comex landing an internship at Apple recently), some are wondering if MuscleNerd has been offered a job with the iPhone-maker. As Business Insider reported, without Comex and MuscleNerd, "the elite community of iPhone hackers known as the iPhone Dev Team will be significantly crippled."

For now, all MuscleNerd would admit to on Twitter is that he visited the prominent campus. “Well this afternoon sure was fun… (what a great company!)…,” he tweeted, including a picture of himself wearing a t-shirt that reads: “I visited the Apple campus. But that’s all I’m allowed to say.”

He subsequently tweeted: "my host at Apple surprised me with that visitor's name tag...I had expected it to be my real name ."

MuscleNerd's cryptic messages about his visit to Apple obviously resonated with the 230,000 people who follow him on Twitter. And this weekend, many are wanting to get to the bottom of this mysterious and unexpected field trip to Apple.

The next person Apple is going to hire is the creator of Tiny Umbrellla, then we will be without an umbrella when it rains

Erm, Geohot is still in the community. iPhone Dev Team have done nothing since like 2008, its been Comex, Geohot and others.

It might not happen anytime soon, but i'll sure try!

      Now i'm looking at greenpois0n. *thinks*OH GOD THAT'S A LOT OF CODE!

And I really don't think it would be a great idea to waste a untether on 4.3.5 when 5.0 will be coming out soon.

This. For all we know, MNerd could have been shown a next-generation device to code for as an independent developer. Or maybe they unveiled a statue of him on campus.

Unfortunately, I believe the most logical explanation of his visit was to be offered a job or compensation of some sort.

Comex was a member of the iPhone Dev Team. Geohot has a full-time job at Facebook, so for all intents and purposes, he's removed from the scene as a major player. There are still several brilliant (known) hackers out there, and many more unknown... all hope is not lost.

…yeah I figured I was joking. I actually just started 4.3.5 tethered. It's actually not that bad. Big deal if I only have to reopen redsnow when my phone reboots. It never reboots unless I just jailbroke or I install winterboard.

Umm... Saurik invented Cydia. As far as I know he had/had nothing to do with exploiting vulnerabilities or making jailbreaking tools. If MuscleNerd joins the dark side, and with Comex gone and Geohot nowhere to be found, we can kiss our jaikbreak community goodbye, until some of the other hackers take the leadership again.

Maybe no one mentions him because he never did anything other than make Cydia. Saurik is clearly not the main man, FYI Installer was here before Saurik ever came with Cydia and he didn't jailbreak the iPhone, Geohot did.

Not true. Long before Cydia was created, Saurik was responsible and author for many of the basic operating system building blocks we use today. Without these building blocks ... nothing. Saurik's contribution has been immense.

Also Erica Sudan ... many apps utilize this authors utilities.

everyday I'm a step away from Apple because of its drop over its products... if I can't jailbreak my phone, then there are plenty of other good phones out there very responsive but actually faster than apples iPhone. I hate to say that but that's bad what Apple is doing.

exactly what i say the day i can't jailbreak my devices ,...then bye bye apple products,....they are really useless if u can't jailbreak. my opinion.
So until then enjoy it . personally i think there will always be a new jailbreak community and it will never stop. Dark side can snap them up but there is always some1 that will come up with something better. Right now we are comfortable with our jailbreakers who i have full and highest restpect for one's they are gone some1 smarter then then will force himself to break codes. Many talented ppl around the world.

You know what I say "Let 'em go to Apple" if it's money they're after, they will get it. But don't get me wrong the community will not forget they're decision to abandon and possibly work against us. Everyone has a price, and if a name tag with your nickname makes him happy, we can count on losing him.

Conspiration theory: geohot, comex, musclenerd an all the dev team are apple employees. Apple had this game in mind from the beginning, to create more iPhone hype. Very unusual marketing strategies, just like the iPhone 4 that was "lost" in a bar.*

NOPE! if I were him reading these comments hating on him I'd probably be more motivated to pursue an apple position if he is considering taking one. MN's been the man for a minute now, whatever he does, much respect.
