  • Set Panoramic and Per Page Wallpapers with MultiWall

If you are one to spice up your SpringBoard from time to time, the primary component is always the wallpaper. We can all agree the variety sometimes is a good thing - who wants to use the same, old wallpaper all the time? There's never not a time to change things up. With MultiWall, you can go a step further and add panoramic and per page wallpapers on your device. Read further to get the scoop.

When you go into the MultiWall tabs in Settings, you are able to change all the values you wish in regards to wallpapers. You have the ability to do the following with MultiWall:

    • Name a theme (the default theme or one you create)
    • Select a theme
    • Define the page width of every page on your SpringBoard (for purposes of sizing your wallpaper)

What's handy about this tweak is that not only does it provide these functions but it includes a help page to explain how to use it. User guides are always a plus and are extremely helpful to the user. Inside the Help tab at the bottom of the MultiWall tab, you can learn what values set what and how to best configure MultiWall for what you want. Also, it gives you a guide on how to add your own wallpapers (since it only comes with a default wallpaper). The location to add to your custom wallpapers for MultiWall are:

/User/Library/RiDan/MultiWall/ (found on your iDevice via SSH)

Note: This folder should contain a text file displaying the valid names for the pages. At the moment, only your default theme may be edited within preferences, installed themes can not be edited.

If you find this of interest, give it a try - it's free on Cydia now and is compatible on all devices and firmwares (has not been tested on the iOS 5 beta - test at your own risk). Note that there are other applications that do similar functions - this is however a viable option to choose from.

First, Cydia didn't show the log messages that it usually shows when installing packages. Then I had to manually respring when the title bar said “Complete” becasue the button wasn't visible.
After the respring, the wallpapers worked, but when changing the settings, they didn't seem to be saving. Does it need a respring after changing settings? Because I didn't notice a button for it.
yes it requires a respiring, but ur wallpapers won't be properly sized.

what do you guys say to perpage and panoramic walls for the switcher as well?

Also, it is a huge memory user; I had ~40MB with it installed after respringing, ~75MB after uninstalling and respringing.

Preference Loader is not supported on iOS5, preferences must be added manually.
The Dock issue is known, and i have actually managed to fix it today. it will be updated soon, with partial iPad support and the fixed dock

A lil..@ times it will cut the wallpaper where part of it moves while the other part remains static....but then again it could a conflict also. Just try not to spread yourself too thin with all your other projects I see you have goin' on here.

The same it will work for a lil while but when mem gets too low the wallpaper splits as stated before.

In settings there's a slider to zoom in on the picture so when swiping pages the backround slides more.

Btw - what is the bare minimum that has to run for mobile substrate addons? I want to test this....but something must be conflicting that it constantly resprings...

I noticed the same memory drain on my iPhone 4 (Verizon). SBSettings usually says I'm running ~280-305mb when only Mail and Phone are running. I installed this and used the default theme, and SBSettings showed me at ~75mb. I used RemoveBackground to clear out anything that might be running, then used "Process" in SBSettings "Free Up Memory" too and still couldn't get up over ~150mb. I set teh theme to "None", and have ~294mb available with only Mail and Phone running.

I love the concept, and I can't wait to see it fine tuned though. Keep up the good work!!!

You place images with correct names in a folder in the directory given I then help section.
      You then create a MultiWall.plist
With values similar to the default theme

Just because it has a feature that android happens to have does not mean it is trying to be android.
It's a feature people want, so why not have it?I've never owned or used an android device, yes I'm aware emit has panoramic wallpapers but saying I'm trying to make iOS like android is like saying Google is trying to be like apple by making their own mobile OS it there own TV.
To each there own, and if people want a feature why not let them have it?
