  • Sprint to Offer Unlimited iPhone Data Plans This October

So how will Sprint compete against AT&T and Verizon as it joins the iPhone family this fall? According to a report this morning from Bloomberg, it will deliver something new iPhone owners can't get elsewhere in the US today: an unlimited data plan.

All but officially confirmed that the third-largest U.S. wireless carrier will get the iPhone 5 next month, sources close to the carrier say Sprint will become the only US operator to offer the device with unlimited data service for a flat fee.

Sprint has been using the iPhoneís launch as retention tool with its executives, as it expects the addition of the device to boost its stock price, said one person familiar with the situation. Sprint fell 8 cents to $3.37 at 9:46 a.m. on the New York Stock Exchange, and had declined 18 percent this year before today.
The addition of the iPhone to Sprintís lineup will not only help it win customers, but the addition of a real unlimited data plan could be a game changer.

According to Matthew Thornton, an analyst at Avian Securities LLC, ďItís a competitive disadvantage if your two larger competitors have the iPhone and you donít. Getting the iPhone closes that gap.Ē But even more, offing the iPhone with unlimited data could steal many, many customers away from AT&T and Verizon.

ďThe advantage of unlimited is, itís cheaper for the big users,Ē Peter Rhamey, an analyst at Bank of Montreal, tells Bloomberg. "The plans may draw other customers because people donít like bill shock. Consumers will pay a premium for unlimited.Ē

Here is the dealRelease of iPhone 2G and then Jailbroken - AT&T got hit hard on their network, but still kept trucking until the iPhone 3gs and near iPhone 4 release. within that time frame people complained oh man call drops its a crap company I am moving to verizon blah blah. plus they will offer unlimited yaddi yadda BS.The real thing was that so much data was being used that the network could not take the overload. What happened as soon as Verizon got the iPhone, just months down the line they were OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DARN the network. now all of a sudden verizon is crap service.whats going to happen to sprint.. well i will leave that to you.Do not blame the Carriers they did not anticipate any of this. The JB community made them realize that when using this iphone at full potential, its going to be a data hog.

If Sprint is smart they will keep unlimited data and not play games like AT&T did and Verizon did. Sprint would have a good thing going if they keep it... and at the prices they charge as well....

Well we will c, sprint has comparable speeds and service to Verizon, (both being CDMA), so IF they have unlimited in a year AND 4G(assuming nxt iPhone is lte capable) AND sprint has lte deployed by then, I may switch. Lol

Cant wait for Sprint to have the Iphone, i have been with Sprint exclusively for years, thru all of their crappy phones, but the one thing that kept me and that remained constant was the Great Call Quality I had with my Sprint BB Tour, it was always clear as if I was on a LanLine.

I swapped over to AT&T for the Iphone 4 and noticed a huge difference in the quality of the calls i was making and receiving. At first I thougt it was just the Iphone, and I still do, but i also switch the work BB to AT&T and the IT guys ordered me 3 new BB cuz they thought something was wrong with the phone due to the poor sound quality, and in the end we gave up and it was either due to the phone or the AT&T service, but after 3 new BB we all agreed it was the AT&T service. The BB and Iphone4 both with poor call quality with Full reception has been my experience on AT&T. Never before had i needed to call someone back because they can not hear me clearly from my office, most of the time I end up using talkatone so the otherside can hear me these days.

My GF's Iphone4 is JB and Unlocked on T-Mobile, and she has no complaints about call quality, so based on where we live and around the house, I would conclude that AT&T's call quality is not the best for us

I think sprint will have the best unlimited unlimited plan of all the carriers. It will be cheaper.

I was paying like 165 or 170 for a family shared plan on At&t with just texting and unlimited data and 700 Minutes. I do miss my 3G at times especially since i cant really tether anymore cuz iWireless edge is retarded slow. But 99% of the time i have wifi when i am at home and when i am at school so. I really dont need 3G. But 57 dollars per phone cant be beat. Hopefully they come out with a T-mobile version of the iPhone 5 so i can finally have my 3G speeds back!

U should look into straight talk on the iPhone 4....the best thing that has ever happened to me...unlimited everything for $45 and it includes...wait 4 it....3G data....yeaaaaaa...life changing!!! There's a bit of a catch, but YouTube and be amazed....you welcom!!

Hmmm... Last week AT&T gave me an additional 1000 text for FREE for no apparent reason. They text me saying that I am a valued customer.... RIGHT! lol

I bet they saw this sprint unlimited data coming and now they are trying to play nice guy.

      Logical response is...

Cellular spectrum, and therefore wireless network throughput, are finite resources. iPhone users gobble up large amounts of spectrum channels for bandwidth, this is an anecdotal (but obvious) truth. More wireless spectrum cannot be created out of thin air, and on the occasions newly re-purposed spectrum is available; it's most expensive to obtain, both financially and regulation-wise. Once Sprint's finite supply is effectively exhausted (which is practically inevitable, especially with competitively-priced plans with unlimited data), demand must be curbed or else the whole network falls through.

In summation: Sprint cannot maintain a "truly unlimited" iPhone data plan and have a effectively functioning network if iPhone use remains as high and demanding as it is currently.

I doubt the legitimacy of that...

Actually the straight talk is doable. It isn't exactly a stick the SIM in and forget about it (except of course to pay the monthly bill) type deal.

I believe how it is done is to purchase the prepaid unit from for example Walmart. No unlock needed either as it's powered by AT&T. I think the stipulation is that you must keep the device handy, as the only way to pay the bill is to have the SIM in the phone it came with (I could be wrong? Somebody correct me if I am...)

Perfectly legit I mean at least it technically isn't causing any harm.

Happy for you guys that love ST. I was with 'em for 2.5 month this Spring, till they decided to slam me for using over 2gb data (6gb or so) the 1st month. I lost over 50 days service I had prepaid for ($80) + $199 phone that is permanently bricked in their system. The best part? My phone number was 'locked' with them till I spent $60 for another ST phone with 1mo service to reactivate my number and therefore port it out which I did immediately. I have ran as fast as I can from ST but can still hear that giant sucking sound! I'll admit that 1st month was AWESOME though;-(

I wish people would relies its not the networks it's the phones. You can not compare the sprint bb tour to another AT&T blackberry unless it's the tour which AT&T does not offer. The Verizon bb storm had worse issues then any AT&T bb that does not meen Verizon is bad. A particular phone may get better service with a particular network but that works vice versa. Tmobile uses gsm just like AT&T does but only has GOOD reception in large cities.
