  • Grill Competition: iPhone vs. Android G2 vs. HTC Surround
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm0AkFUYpLQ&feature=player_embedded[/ame]

It's continually amazing how much money people are willing to spend to destroy electronics, especially smartphones. If it's not somebody putting an iPhone in a blender it's somebody else getting a model to stomp on it. Well, the EZ Grill Company has taken the destruction to the next level, holding a competition to see which on three popular smartphones can hold up the longest to a barbecue flame.

The EZ Grillers took a $599 Android G2, a $499 HTC Surround running Windows Phone 7, and an iPhone 4 they say cost $731 (a 32GB model? really?) and put them all on their portable, disposable grill. The video was produced by Banyan Branch, a "social media" advertising agency that is helping them market their product by coming up with something they hope will go viral. They've also got a promotion where if you send a picture of you and your friends using disposable EZ Grills, they'll send you as many as three replacements. It's all about using social media like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to sell products, and it's probably a good strategy for companies with a small budget.

As far as the "competition" went, T-Mobile's G2 Android phone by HTC was the first to go, black-screening 45 seconds into the video. The iPhone 4 showed a warning as soon as the internal sensor registered the 35C cutoff temperature, so we're not sure if the phone was dead yet "or only resting." The HTC Surround lasted the longest, with its Windows Phone alarm ringing until it too went dead. The video ends colorfully (and toxically) with the phones' batteries exploding.

So, did they get their money's worth?

Those guys want to destroy something expensive heh? they should put their cars on a giant grill to see which one cooks the fastest, then we'll see which one of them is eager to try it. This test is absolutely POINTLESS...WHO COOKS PHONES to EAT THEM??!!?

Lol, I bet that would have a bigger explosion at the end than the phone batteries. And no, it's not "POINTLESS". It's a very successful ad. And since they cooked phones from three tech companies, you can bet that more forums posted about this, giving their ad very high viewership. I think it was a very original and ingenious idea for an ad.

Well all that guy did was ramble off into talking about "The God Delusion" anyway. He was kinda being a **** (that's not really being specific, make of it what you will). It's just that - coupled with the fact that he could break so far away from topic without any punctuation - that made it overwhelming. I don't care if people miss a comma, don't capitalize something, misspell a couple words, etc. But ranting a whole sheet of paper's worth of material with no punctuation?

It's not as though he missed a comma or even used the wrong their/there; instead he suffered from a very severe case of diarrhea of the mouth. There was no stop in his flow, and I had to give up reading it after the first 1/3 of it because the guy couldn't put together coherent thoughts.

I love it when people complain about stuff like this. Please tell me, what would you rather they do to advertise? Spend 10 times the amount they did on the devices then donate the whole $1829? Yeah because that's soooo cost effective. People who have money have the right to do what they want with it. Once you earn that amount of money, you can donate it all to charity but until then, don't dictate what others do with their money because no one is dictating your budget which could be considered by some as as wasteful as this advert.

If anyone who said to donate the money has any nice things, that would be deemed unnecessary for everyday living, they should donate them all to charity. Since you want to tell other people not to waste their money and to donate it instead, you should lead the way by donating that nice plasma tv or your smart phone. Oh, you worked hard to get those? So did the company in who created the video so please put up or stfu.
