  • iPhone 5 Prototype Turns Up Missing in San Francisco Bar

No, you didn't accidentally click on a headline from early 2010. And, no, this isn't a joke. Apple has lost another next-gen iPhone prototype in a fashion eerily similar to the conditions in which the iPhone 4 went missing months before the fourth generation device was meant to be seen in public.

Although no shortage of unanswered questions remain about this developing story out of northern California, here's what we know for sure. Apple is working with police to recover what is presently believed to be a missing iPhone 5 prototype. The device went missing at a bar in San Francisco's Mission District.

An unnamed Apple employee is believed to have lost the device.

Although we're just finding out about the lost iPhone 5 now, the incident reportedly happened in late July. "This year's lost phone seems to have taken a more mundane path,"" CNET confirms in its coverage of this almost too-difficult-to-believe story. "It was taken from a Mexican restaurant and bar and may have been sold on Craigslist for $200. Still unclear are details about the device, what version of the iOS operating system it was running, and what it looks like."

No police report, however, was officially filed by Apple - likely in an effort to keep this development under wraps. For now, Apple isn't offering comment on the matter. But all published reports, and even sources within the San Francisco PD, confirm one thing - the missing iPhone 5 has not yet been recovered.

What a horribly thought out plan...
      "Let's loose it again..."
      "where this time ?"
      "a bar"
      " oh . Okay!"

I bet u apple put like a restraining order on gizmodo, so if they find anything new, they can't do anything.

Chances are its just a ip4 look alike.
And the guy probably already had one.
Restored it, and sold it...oops no proof of which iOS it's running...

Word! It's inadverntly public marketing for whoever seems to get their hands on it ;P Good idea to let it be released to the public in a way so people can gossip and brag about what's coming in the near future! Regardless if it was sold on CL or not....It still seems to be going through hands of probably hundreds of people or even shown to the eyes of the general public for marketing!

Without pics, this story is pointless, regardless of whether or not it is true.

Who ever found it probably doesn't even know what they found. But that's a good thing.
Leaked photos will only spoil the excitement and surprise. There will be enough talk and hype once it's released and I'm sure crapple isn't relying on leaked photos for their jolt in sales.
Let's just wait until all the specs, features, and images are released and presented professionally.

This is such a BS story, just to get the hype about the new one coming out. The 3G is selling for $150 on CL. This is so funny.

Bah...humbug!!! I hope that no one is actually falling for this crap of a story!!! But lets just say that its true....there's no doubt in my mind, that it was purposely done to fulfill some devious plot on behalf of Apple!

      but...I still believe its humbug!

Apple would have filed a police report if they wanted to do this as a publicity stunt.
A reporter would have picked up on it in the public archives and then it would have exploded into a story.
No, people are just being people....and people lose things.

We can speculate all we want but it will not change a thing...so lets just hope some pics surface!
