    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yO2KQHkt4A&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - Android running on iPhone[/ame]

David Wong - better known as Dev-Team member planetbeing - has just announced that he got an iPhone to dual boot Android and the iPhone OS. The genius hacker who ported the Linux 2.6 kernel to the iPhone in 2008 says he's been working on the Android port "quietly in the background." He "wanted to make sure everything was usable," after getting some reaction to the initial iPhone Linux release

Images as well as sources are located here - he calls it "alpha quality" and "slightly buggy," but "pretty much everything works."

This is going to be huge.

Do I need to access the phone through Wi-Fi? I can't seem to determine my phone's IP address.

I still haven't done rooted the phone yet. I get permissioned denied when trying to copy the su to data/local

Although I can connect to the phone. Try to access your wireless router and check for attached devices. The name of the phone should match its name in iTunes (iPhone mode). Don't forget to open/port forward port 5555 for the Android on your router.

EDIT: Wow!!! I got it rooted. Now I can reboot to iPhone without having to use a hard reset.
I had to reupdate the files using the iDroid 1.0a (it's a torrent somewhere). Version a is more stable and the touchscreen is more accurate (the old one was skewed to the left).

i cant get it to boot back into android.. it keeps scanning the ftl virtual blocks in the start up and in the linux kernel... it takes over an hour to check them and then jumps to a black screen :/ im thinking i need to redo it.. and the directions for root say i need to put files in system 32 for windows.

the adb.exe.. i need to access that first and i dont have a windows machine..

is anyone else having this problem with hard reset?

The progress of the iDroid community has increased. Rooting, then how to install apps (.apk) and SD card emulation (buggy).

      http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/Install_packages(apk)

Here's how to install apks to the android running iphone.

It also teaches Mac users how to load the adb files.

      This is how it goes:
Fire up Terminal (in Mac) then enter these commands:
      >cd Downloads
      >wget url=http://developer.android.com/sdk/download.html?v=android-sdk_r05-mac_86.zip
      >unzip android-sdk_r05-mac_86.zip
      >tar xzvf android-sdk_r05-mac_86.zip
      >echo "PATH=$PATH:~/Downloads/android-sdk-mac_86/tools" >> ~/.profile
      >restart terminal

Hope that helps in installing the ADB so macs can also root and install packages.

We need to find or create an application to enable some sort of sleep mode to turn off the screen somehow. I'll try looking for apps that may just do the trick.

Does gmail work? I tried installing it but I couldn't. Maybe you have a better apk and better instructions.

Hack that Phone - Installing Android on the 1st generation iPhone

Can someone help me? I'm on step 3 and it says to "decompress" this file. I clicked on the link and all I got was the firmware-extractor.c file (no firware-extractor.zip file as in the illustration)

      What am I missing here?

Well since I wrote that guide, I can help you.

If your browser is set to automatically unzip (decompress) files, then you are good to go. You don't need the .zip file if you have the .c file.

We could actually emulate an SD card after rooting the iDroid. It could be any size, from 100MB to a possible maximum of 2GB.

2GB is what i've premade, i believe u can have even 4GB or even up till the max of the iPhone capacity, just that it will take way too long to copy into /private/var

Where can I find that app for the video streaming?

And also, I have a problem with the Apple OS. It got stuck in the boot screen and I had to go restore it. Will the restore delete Android? I hope not...
