  • HP Beating Dead Horse, Producing One Last Run of TouchPads

    HP's $99 TouchPads flew off shelves faster than they could be stocked, and the resulting fervor sparked rumors that HP might get back into the tablet arena. A blog post by HP today spurred even more speculation.

    HP announced on their TheNextBunch blog: "Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand."

    This move led many to speculate that HP is thinking about jumping back into the business they so quickly left two weeks ago. However, a report from DigiTimes claims HP's component suppliers aren't happy with the amount of product they've been left with. As a result HP execs most likely saw the advantage of making a little cash on the massive number of left over LCDs, cases, and other TouchPad components instead of simply taking the loss.

    Make no mistake - the TouchPad is dead. This last run is just the tablet's last breath, and if for some reason HP decides to get back into the tablet game, it'll look like an even worse decision than when they got out. HP wouldn't be the butt of a few jokes; they'd be the joke.

      Can't wait to get one of these. That is unless the greedy folks that buy 10 and sell them on eBay and craigslist don't get the second run as well. I hope they limit one per address and only sell on the HP website. Makes me sick when I see someone with a stack of them asking $300

      Too Bad!!! HP is real American Brand for electronics Computers, less one competitor , bad for us...

      I may just have to buy one considering theyre giving out free apps and android is coming to it. An android tablet for $99!

      If they do make a run of them, they will drive down the online reseller prices of people who bought them at $99/$149 and now on Ebay and selling them for $300+

      You cannot buy them anywhere at the moment. HP sent out an email yesterday to those who registered for an update on availability. They mentioned they will be getting more but made it clear that it will not be enough to satisfy the demands of those who registered.

      This really is quite sad. I really like my iphone, but I'm also REALLY liking my touchpad. I actually like WebOS more than android tbh.

      Well they could technically get back in the tablet business but start selling them with Android OS out of the box. Price it a hundred less than competition (and I mean competition Android tablets) and I'm pretty sure people will buy them.

      It's never apples marketing strategy reducing price to increase sales. And IPads are well worth what apple is asking for. I have a iPad and in love it

      I really like my HP Touchpad. WebOs isn't that bad. Just wish they had an app store like Apple.

      Tablet news is relevant regardless the manufacturer. same reason this site reports news on microsoft, sprint, tmobile, or android smart phone.
