FBI Releases First iOS App to Aid Child Safety
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released its first iOS app - a mobile application that focuses on child safety.
“You’re shopping at the mall with your children when one of them suddenly disappears. A quick search of the nearby area is unsuccessful. What do you do?” the FBI asks in a statement heralding the app's release. "Now there’s a free new tool from the FBI that can help."
The Child ID app provides a convenient place to electronically store photos and vital information about one's children so that it’s literally right at hand if you need it, the FBI says.
The Bureau acknowledges that in the event of a missing child emergency, users can quickly show the pictures and provide physical identifiers to authorities. What's more, a tab allows users to e-mail the information to authorities.
“The app also includes tips on keeping children safe as well as specific guidance on what to do in those first few crucial hours after a child goes missing,” the FBI says while noting that the Bureau is not collecting or storing any photos or information entered in the app.
