  • KillBackground - Kill All Background Apps in AppSwitcher

The Multitasking / AppSwitcher feature, first added in iOS 4, is a great implementation that allows quick switching of applications from anywhere on your device. For the most part, in terms of use for simple purposes, the AppSwitcher does a great job of giving you the options and methods you need to best use your device. The only downside to the Multitasking feature is that you're only able to remove one background application at a time. This can be cumbersome and extremely annoying, especially if you have a ton of applications open. Background applications many times can bog down the performance of your device; thus it is applicable to check every so often to delete processes you're not using. A new tweak that just appeared in Cydia, KillBackground, makes the removal process much easier.

It's quite simple - when you access your AppSwitcher view, there are two skull like tabs on both sides of the view. Tapping either one of those tabs will kill/remove all background tasks in your AppSwitcher. Quick and simple. There are no options or settings to configure and it works well. And to top it off, the tweak is free of charge!

Give it a shot if this something that would be of use to you - it requires iOS 4.0+ and works on all iDevices (I tested on iOS 5 beta 4 and it works fine - using jailbreak tweaks and applications on the iOS 5 beta will be done at your own risk. Please be wary of the consequences and possible risks).

    Name: KillBackground
    Author: Mathieu Bolard
    Version: 1.0-1
    Price: Free

Post your thoughts on this in this thread: there are other applications like this that do similar actions, however what makes this one nice is that it is simple, free, and located inside the AppSwitcher view.

So we can either use "Direct Closer Pro", "RemoveBG" toggle in Sbsettings and now the new "KillBackground"

My favorite app that does the same thing is called "Remove Background" in Cydia. What I like best about it is that after set up all I have to do is short hold the home button for one second and it automatically removes all apps. Doesn't get any easier than that.

Love the idea but hate the interface, the buttons can be accidentally pressed easily where they are located resulting in losing unsaved data.

So maybe if the tabs were smaller you'd be on board? That would most likely be an easy fix.

. . . or you could install SwitcherPlus for free from Cydia. A kill all badge is just one of its many features. AND it's implemented in a much nicer looking way than this.

It's also been out for almost a year too

Multifl0w FTW. No need for this tweak.

I like it. Actually matches up with the VIP theme I'm running.

I agree w all multifl0w users. It's the best 1 for me. Takes less time to open up and looks much much nicer. Been using it ever since it came out a little over a year ago for my 3GS.

Yes, however, this new killbackground as far more elegant IMO.

I'm personally happy with multifl0w, switchermod, and sbsettings.

I never really saw much need for killing all apps in iOS (most of them are suspended anyway). If you're really just trying to free up memory manually (iOS will often close apps and free memory up for you when it needs to), why stop short of respringing?

Yes, make the button smaller and place it on one side only.

Question: Should the stock phone app remain active?

I was wondering where you been Josh, good to see ya bro.

As for the tweak I think ,"remove background" is the best. At least for me, all I do is double tap the status bar and they are all gone.

The only complaint I have about this is that you can't set certain apps to keep running

I've downloaded RemoveBG but didn't understand it's Function so I'm going to reMOVE it and see how this one fares.
