  • Jumptap Mobile Hot Spot Map Shows Which States Are iOS Dominated

It's sort of like the red/blue political map of the USA that you see on the news during presidential elections... but way cooler.

The good people at Jumptap have published what's being called a mobile platform “heat map," as it makes it easy to peruse the states in which certain smartphones and their accompanying mobile operating systems are most popular.

The blue states, as highlighted in the image above, showcase where iOS enjoys dominance within the smartphone user population. Conversely, yellow points to leadership from Android. Grey means BlackBerry dominance. And, lastly, the checkered pattern means you have a diverse smartphone user-base without a clear dominant leader.

The map shows that consumers in the South and Southwest “tend to be Android-biased compared to the rest of the country, while those in the Midwest and Northeast lean towards iOS.”

“Our advertisers are requesting the most granular data available on mobile users so they can create the most targeted campaigns,” says Paran Johar, Chief Marketing Officer for Jumptap. “This new data reveals some interesting patterns for advertisers to consider when targeting consumers using Android devices vs. iOS devices.”

This new data, Jumptap admits, clearly "establishes an evolving narrative of a North vs. South divide in the ongoing battle of the two top mobile operating systems."

Wow! You'd think Alabama would make the iOS ruled because you see more iPhone's than Androids! Or ,maybe that's just Mobile?

Why? Because Apple's headquarters is there? That doesn't really mean anything.

I highly doubt this "mapping" is correct.

Yes, I am not convinced that it is correct either.

Somewhat yes…but then again this data is nowhere near being accurate for a "heat map"

I'm with you on this one. While I can easily believe NY, VA and MD are Blackberry-heavy, I don't know why KS, OR, or the Dakotas would be...

Same with Android--I can see CA being dominated by Android (lotta people without the funds necessary for an iPhone), but WA? CO? TX? Three relatively wealthy, "nerdy" states, all Android?

On the same foot, I don't see why LA or MT are particularly biased towards iPhones.

I guess those free/cheap Android phones offered with free with contract are fairly popular...?

The main reason Southern California ISN'T iOS is because of the smaller companies like page plus and t-mobile who offer android based devices. Even AT&T and Verizon still have android phones, but they have such a major grip on those that use the iPhone, it's cheaper on the lower income family's to use android based phones.

Ya there are a lot of Android fanboys here in CA (LA) but I think this map is correct considering that Adroid is an OS ran on different many brands of phones and on pretty much all cell carriers while iOS is only on one Brand on phone SOLD by only two carriers. Of course the Android fanboys wouldn't take that into consideration. They just want to feel good that their OS is selling the most.SMH.
