  • What's New In Cydia: MyOS, Quake 3 for iPad, iControl...

Here are some new apps and updates to check out in Cydia this week.

    MyOS

MyOS is an unified, all-in-one, package tweak, that enables further settings to be adjusted in the Settings App, rather than having to edit a plist file.

Such settings you can enable or disable are: Multitasking, Homescreen WallPapers, Unified iPod (merged video and ipod apps into the Music App), AppStore Access, Contacts, Enable HDR photos, GameCenter (3G only), Camera and Voice Control. Simply choose to enable or disable the options you want, and then respring.

MyOS is available in cydia for $0.99.

Quake 3 Arena HD (for iPad)

If you missed the news earlier, Alexander Pick and Controlsystem have managed to port the Quake 3 app to the iPad to enjoy the wonder HD goodness we have all come to love.

Coming in at 1024x768, you can play online or offline, and features onscreen controls. There is some setup required, as per usual. If you need help setting things up, then you can follow the information provided in the package on cydia.

    iControl

iControl will automatically manage the usage of your WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, and 2G radios on your device, in order to maximize the battery life of your iPhone. iControl allows you to set App-Specific rules, keeping it customized to your liking.

Once you have configured your preferences, iControl will manage things when your phone is locked.

By ensuring that you use only the fastest battery sucking radios like 3G and Bluetooth when you need them iControl will extend your battery life by up to 100%!
You can find iControl in Cydia for $4.99

    Also in Cydia...

    Direct Control - Free
Get Access to your iPod music controls first, rather than having the current multi-tasked apps, which show first.

    dlssid - $3.99
Recover your Dlink wireless router internet password.

    FWSSID - $3.99
Recover Your FastWeb wireless router internet password.

    MarkThatMessage - $0.99
    Timestamp your MMS/SMS Messages

iControl switches radios much faster than auto3g (if you set to 0 delay). Also gives you other options like automatically switching to 3g or turning radios off entirely when on wifi which I find very useful and batery saving.

Also lets you set when you want wifi or bluetooth on and off. Ie. If you want bluetooth to automaticallly turn off when you lock the device and come back on when you unlock.

Too bad MyOS doesnt work on 4.0.1.

How bout enable or disable HD video recording on 3gs? Saw that in cydia but its also only 4.1 but theres a thread here detailing how to do it so it manually which works on 4.0.x and 4.1.

Got quake 3 but dont feel like going through the hassle of setting it up... I will eventually though. It has 4.2 compatibility somehow.

Direct control just makes more sense after all those years of double tapping the home button to show the music instead of having to double tab then swipe.

There's an interesting new Cydia app I was hoping to see reviewed. You guys totally missed it :-( IGotYa is a fascinating little app that will snap a picture from the front-facing camera and email this, along with the current GPS location, if an incorrect passcode is entered. The most curious feature is an optional "safe mode" that hides all your personal details and presents the user with a vanilla-/brand-new-looking iPhone. Not sure how securely hidden your data really is, but it's a great idea for tracking down an unsuspecting thief. Does anybody have experience/opinions on the "safe mode" in IGotYa?

I had the same problem. I still love MyOS, but I was a little disappointed that Game Center didn't show. I'm sure there will be an update that will fix this, so I'm not too concerned.

I installed iControl a few days ago and it has proper f***ed up my carrier reception. I installed it and my signal dropped from full to just 1 bar and it is constantly loosing signal. I can get full signal back by fully disabling 3G totally, but i need 3G when im out and about. I contacted the owner of the app and he told me to disable it in SBSettings but not even this rectifies the problem. After a couple of other replies he just stopped replying at all. Here are a couple of the replies he sent to me.....

Hi Neil, first try to respring and then reboot your phone. If this does not correct your issue, are you in an area with weak or spotty 2G or 3G coverage.

      iControl to me
Whille we look into the issue you are having, you can disable iControl via SBSettings Options -> More - > MobileSubstrate Addons and then toggling iControl off.

Here is a post which somebody posted on another well known site, i dont understand it all, but someone probably understands whats happening in the background

This seems to be a busy little app. Here is the console readout from the iPhone Configuration Utility on my 3gs after installing and enabling (pay attention to the time stamps):

Icontrol works better than auto3g IMO.
Auto3g is buggy and wouldn't connect me back to 3G unless i uninstalled it.

Nice, direct control willl basically bring back ipod controls with double click while keeping multitasking. This is very smart!

Well if they can port Quake 3 to iPad, they could port half-life 1/2. The source engine (all of Half-Life 2's guts) is based on a motefeid version of Quake engine

It should (except for hdr photos obviously) but it is still a little buggy.

How awesome it would be to have half life on my iPhone! He'll on any portable device that's not a laptop! Anyway does the Quake III port work on the iPhone as well?

I used to have Auto3G on my 3GS and it worked pretty well. Then I got an i4 and went to repurchase (mostly) everything again. When I came to Auto3G I noticed iControl also. So I went ahead and bought it but to my suprise the sbsettings toggle doesn't appear. Upon attempting to contact the author either via mail or the developers site in Cydia, I was confronted with a big fat 'Nope, nothing here. Move along folks'. Even an extensive googling ending in no results.

To cut a long story short (which I guess I really didn't do to well.. ) does anyone have any form of contact details of the dev?

      Thanks in advance.
