  • 90 Second Song Previews Now Available in Some International iTunes Stores

Apple has bucked the 30 second preview length in favor of 90 second song previews in some international music stores.

Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., Canada and a few other European countries have now joined the United States in a brave new 90-second iTunes song preview world. When Apple made the switch to 90-second previews in the U.S. they caught considerable flack from record labels, as they simply sent out a letter to labels that "All you have to do is continue making your content available on the iTunes Store, which will confirm your acceptance to the following terms." The terms Apple provided gave them the right to make 90-second previews available for songs longer than 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

The 10 month delay for international stores seems to be more of a logistics problem than a legal on. Although, one would think Apple's ultimatum of "Accept our terms or stop selling your product through our store," would cause a little more ruckus than has been reported. Ninety seconds is a long time, especially when a song is just barely over 2:30. Not that it's a bad thing, especially for consumers.

I have bought more music now because of the 90 second reviews. I recently searched my iTunes library for "purchased", and found I have 356 purchased songs. I love iTunes+.
