  • Cloned Apple Stores Plague China, Confuse Customers

Take a close look at the image above. On the surface, you have what appears to be a snapshot of a Chinese-based Apple retail store. Indeed, all the familiar bells and whistles of an Apple store experience are there - the furniture, color scheme, products, etc. But low and behold this isn't really an Apple Store - at least not an official one.

Although Apple's retail presence in China is growing by leaps and bounds (read more about Apple's Chinese retail endeavors), fake Apple products are no stranger to mainland China. And it now appears as though cloned Apple stores are gaining the same traction.

This photo inside a fake Apple store in Kunming, China shows bold wall graphics, a wood display counter against the wall, an employee in a Apple logo blue shirt wearing a white name tag on a lanyard, acrylic info cards, iPads on tilted acrylic stands, stone floor, and the "Apple Store" sign. The second level has wood flooring
How does this happen, you ask? Well, all we know for sure is that those who own these fake Apple stores are doing their best to keep attention off of the "unofficial" aspect of their locations. In fact, the powers that be at spots like the one pictured above strictly prohibit any video or photos being taken inside the store.

Still, some images were taken and turned up yesterday on IFOapplestore. What remains to be seen is how Apple and Chinese officials will ultimately handle the growing rash of knock-off stores and products that continue to plague China - a problematic scenario that one must assume will be addressed as Apple moves forward with unprecedented retail expansion plans for China.

after all that attention to detail, you would think they would at least ensure the cardboard cutout apple staff were upright and not leaning crooked! - gives the game away!

bet thats a fake omega on his wrist too

China is known for putting fake apple products so it puzzles me as to why apple will sell the official iPhone 5 in China. seems to me that that would encourage more fakes.

Don't worry, apple will be shortly releasing an update, to prevent unauthorized apple stores from showing up.

The title of this article states fake Apple Stores, it does not say they are selling fake hardwares. Those iPads on those displays looks like real ones.
Probably trying to cash in on Apple equipment sales and service profits

Go to these stores and if they are selling genuine Apple products, they can block access for all the hardwares in these stores with an update from Jobs

If there real apple products (hopefully cheaper) then who gives a damn.
You guys are mad at this guy for making money when Steve Jobs himself is the rip-off of the century.
Im sure he has the iPhone7 in a case somewhere ready to be the most powerful phone ever but he needs to release 7 differnt models just cause Apple fans will buy it.

There are four ways to acquire new Apple products that I'm aware of.

      1) Buy them wholesale from Apple, where your margins will be to the point where you'll be roughly in line with standard pricing, if not contractually obligated to be so.
      2) Buy them retail from Apple or a reseller, and be obligated to jack the price up accordingly to make any money.
      3) You are Apple.
Or, what I think is most likely:
      4) Steal or knowingly purchase stolen/counterfeit goods and sell those.

Authorized retailers that enjoy their business and licensing (and therefore bulk access to Apple products) generally don't violate the reseller guidelines, which dictate labeling yourself as a "premium reseller."

Apple has every right to be offended that these folks are "borrowing" their brand, even considering the possibility Apple got paid in full for these products. The PR backlash from shoddy goods not being replaced/repaired quickly, bad customer service, overly obtuse Geniuses, etc. in the world's fastest-growing large economy isn't something one would think Apple particularly wants to deal with.
