  • OS X Lion is in the Mac App Store, MacBook Airs Updated, Mac Minis Too

Well, the rumors were right folks, Apple released OS X Lion, updated the Macbook Airs, and updated the Mac Minis as well. Head to the Mac App Store to download Lion for $29.99 and get the other goodies online or at your nearest Apple Store.

9to5Mac appears to have been right-on with their spec rumors. The new MacbookAirs and MacMinis appear with the specs below.

    • Mac mini Base model: 2.3GHz CPU with 2GB of RAM, and 500GB of storage
    • Mac mini: 2.5GHz CPU with 4GB of RAM, and, 500GB of storage
    • Mac mini server: 2.0GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, and two 500GB hard drives
    • MacBook Air 11″: Base model: 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage
    • MacBook Air 11″: 1.6GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage
    • MacBook Air 11″: Built to order model: 1.8GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage
    • MacBook Air 13″: Base model: 1.7GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage
    • MacBook Air 13″: 1.7GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, 256GB of storage
    • MacBook Air 13″: Built to order: 1.8GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, 256GB of storage
The MacBooks Airs start at $999 and if you notice all of them come equipped with SSDs and Intels updated Sandy Bridge processors standard. They also come equipped with Thunderbolt I/O ports as well as the rumored backlit keyboards. These things look sweet, and I kind of want one. Badly.

It appears the only difference between the lower-end MBA's and higher-end models is the 13" utlizes the extra space by adding and SD slot as well as the 13" model having a longer rated battery life, 7 hours versus the 11" model's 5 hours.

The new Mac Minis come in three flavors as well all sporting i5 or i7 processors, with ram upgradeable to 8gb and a litany of HDD options including dual 256GB SSD options and dual 750gb 7200rpm HDD options for the $999 server edition. All three versions sport Thunderbolt ports as well.

Note all of the Mac Minis and MBAs sport Intel's integrated graphics solutions. Guh, at least Apple supports Thunderbolt across the board now. Looks like a new I/O is here to stay. Eat your heart out USB 3.0.

I thought the rumor was that even if you had the dev version of Lion you would then have to still purchase Lion when it became GA. I had the GM installed, went to the apple store this morning and it shows that i have it installed, it wont even let me purchase it, because it thinks i already have it installed (wich i essentially do since the GM is the same release).

Pretty cool tho that we dont have to pay the 30 bucks if we had the Dev account... it makes the $99 dollars that much more worth it...

Anyone checked yet to see if it's compatible with jailbreaks? I'd rather stick to SL than loose my iPad 2 jailbreak!

Is there a way to hook these macbook air's to an external monitor through an adapter? I do not see a mini-dvi port or anything like that, which my current macbook air has... Will thunderbolt be adaptable to HDMI or DVI cables?

Does anyone know what the build number is for the release version of lion? Go to About this mac -> More info -> Click on software, and it's right beside the OS version.

Yes the thunderbolt port on the right side is how you will hook up to a display. I have mine hooked up with thunderbolt to hdmi on my mbp

Great updates! The back lit keyboard was the only feature I missed on my old MBA. The Core processors will make this thing insanely fast. I'm very disappointed the retail stores won't carry the 4GB RAM upgrade though.

Anyone know where you can buy these in store? Is Apple the only option? Any idea when Best Buy will have them? Thanks!

Today’s Mac OS X Lion release is actually an older build than the Developer GM seed. Mac OS X Lion was officially released to the public on July 20th 2011. Apple requires you to download their latest software operating system through their Mac AppStore. You will notice that the build number is 11A494 and that the GM build number that was released to developers is 11A511.

Next question, where can you buy them online without having to pay sales tax ... I could care less about their student $100 App-Store Card

Maybe a dumb question, but is there a way to integrate the new gestures for scrolling through tabs in Safari? With all the new gestures features that's the only thing that I feel could be changed for the better.

But it could also mean I'm a lazy American that doesn't want to move the cursor a few inches.
