  • iOS 4.3.4 Released - Stay Away If Jailbroken

Today, Apple has released the newest updated version of iOS - 4.3.4. This release is a rebuttal to the PDF exploit found and implemented in comex (@comex)'s JailbreakMe 3.0. The PDF hole was a security issue regardless of the involvement of JailbreakMe - however, news of this hole reached Apple because of what comex did with JailbreakMe 3.0 (also potentially by the leaked version before release of JailbreakMe 3.0). iOS 4.3.4 is for all iDevices - iPhone, iPod, and iPad (1 - 2).

A word of warning from MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd):

If you value your jailbreak, do NOT update: make sure to preserve your SHSH blobs also.

A support document from Apple gives an overview of the security content in iOS 4.3.4:

    Security Content of iOS 4.3.4

A shout-out to @iNeal11 for catching my attention on Twitter - give him a follow!

UPDATED: This update includes Verizon devices also (4.2.9). Same disclaimer as above.

Now I am curious did you change the default password "alpine" or did you leave it "alpine"?

It's fine let's just try to stay on topic, this is an irrelevant discussion that has been dragged out too long. If we are going to have a full on Android vs iPhone debate this should be taken elsewhere.

You are right Annie, my apologies...

I will update you guys what firmware the iPad came with as soon as my bud receives it...

I agree with Simon that Apple will likely stop signing 4.3.3 by next week but it wouldn't hurt to try it anyway when you get it. Just be careful with jailbreaking it on 4.3.3 (which I think it will be on) so that you won't have to restore to 4.3.4 and be forced to wait for the next jb.

Even if the iPad 3g cannot be downgraded back to 4.3.3 it wouldn't be a bad idea to save because if there is a bootrom exploit discovered that would allow the iPad to boot out of the recovery mode.

It is always worth saving your Blobs - you never know when they might come in handy. But get in quick. I would be surprised if they are still signing this time tomorrow - and it could be a lot sooner.

Oh I will try to save it one way or the other when I get it.
I just don't see another JB coming until a significant software update will be released, as to why waste a valueable exploit on a BS firmware like 4.3.4.

I am just keeping my fingers crossed the devs have another exploit in hand and waiting.

How do you know that Apple stopped signing it without doing that actual restore itself?
Does TinyUmbrella throw an error or something like that?

Tinyumbrella just will not be able to save it. It will just skip 4.3.3 and save 4.3.4.

TU has the option to request the SHSH blob from Cydia ... or ... Apple. Easy to check if Apple is signing

Yea, I ran it now with my wife's iPad and in log it clearly states which ones are being signed which ones are not.
      Thanks!

      Hello,
I got a new iPhone-4 (AT&T) 3 weeks back. Had iOS 4.3.3 on my iPhone 4. Jailbroke my iphone 4 using jailbreakme.com 2 weeks back. Yesterday, I powered down my phone and turned it back again (1st time after jailbreak), and phone became a brick!!!! I had to do a restore using iTunes on my laptop! Whew! Scary!!!

I'm just surprised it took so long.
If you STILL haven't got your Blobs use iFaith.

WiFi or 3G - why do you need to restore?

WiFi only...I don't need it right now (I don't even have the iPad2 yet, it will be delivered on Thursday hopefully), but I like to have a solution in case I mess it up when jailbreaking that I can restore to a firmware that I can JB.

iFaith doesn't work for all iPad2 models as far as I know?
