  • iStartupSound - Boot Sound For iOS Devices

    A key blessing to having a jailbroken device is the freedom to customize it however you wish. Although not every factor of customization is necessarily a "necessity," the ability to do so if one wants is what makes the jailbreak community a vibrant place for creativity and innovation. One such area is a boot-up sound for iOS devices. This may not be an essential package, however this is a great way to customize your device to your own fitting; it adds flavor and a little personal touch to your device(s). Vladislav Korotnev (@vladkorotnev) has made a simple tweak that allows you to customize a start-up sound for your iOS device. The sound plays directly after the SpringBoard finishes loading.

    The implementation is rather simple - after installing iStartupSound, you must place a sound file in the following path via SSH for it to work upon boot:
    /var/mobile
    Here are the requirements for the file you place in that folder:

    • The file can be in the following formats - .mp3, .wav, or .caf
    • But, no matter what the file format, the file must be named startup.wav (/var/mobile/startup.wav is where it will be placed)

    And from there, you can add whatever sound you wish - totally up to you.

    Vladislav has submitted this package to the ModMyi repository so it should be available soon. Upon release, it will be available on Cydia for free. It is compatible on all iOS devices and firmwares (including all iOS 5 betas).

      I downloaded the vladkorotnev file and placed it in Themes...but it does not work...please help! My sound file is where it's supposed to be /var/mobile/startup.wav

      Let me know what i need to do please and thank you.

      Just download it from Cydia as it is available now. Your startup.wav should still take!

      If not, to manually install any .deb file:
      Go to /var/root/Media

      *you might have to create a Cydia folder in the Media folder
      *then create an AutoInstall folder inside the Cydia folder
      ***pay attention to my capitalization for those folders!!!***
      *Bookmark the AutoInstall folder for future use

      *Final result will be: /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall

      Place the .deb file in the AutoInstall folder and REBOOT your phone

      That's it

      I installed this via Cydia and can't get it to work. I'm on 4.2.1 maybe it's conflicting with another app?

      EDIT: ok got it to work, the file has to be named "startup.wav" cuz I had placed an mp3 file and renamed it but it must be .wav

      An mp3 file should've worked too but it still needs to be labeled .wav

      I've been thinking the same thing for a long time, I would use the "Survey Says! EEGGHHHH" From Family Feud. I just need to learn how to program on iPhone and I'll make it happen.

      I just wish it played the sound louder. I've boosted the volume on the file itself and it's still quiet. Must be some limitation of the system, too bad.
