  • iPhone 4 Unlock Release in 48 Hours

I chatted with David Wang today, aka planetbeing, and he let me know he's doing a 48 hour test period from now, and then will release the unlock.

The iPhone 4 unlock is already working and remains in testing. Planetbeing and MuscleNerd have been testing it a while, and it's nearly perfect - but needs a couple days for some finishing touches. With the jailbreak being released just now, I figured an unlock status update would quench a thousand threads from starting.

Cody has been in Scotland for a couple weeks, and is also testing the iPhone 4 unlock with O2 and various carriers in Europe. So far it's been smooth and working just like how it should - without you noticing. Toss in some APN settings and you're off with an unlocked iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4 compatible version of ultrasn0w will be downloadable through Cydia, same as normal. It will unlock a multitude of device/OS combinations. Of course we'll let you know as soon as it's officially released.

Meanwhile - we're hosting planetbeing's new iPhone app, Signal. It's available through the Cydia Store now, and works on 3G, 3G[S], and the iPhone 4. Signal maps the cell towers you are connected to and displays detailed cellular information from the baseband. Pretty nifty app which runs $4.99. The Dev Team and planetbeing don't accept donations - but these guys have put a LOT of work into the iPhone and the most recent unlock and jailbreak! Grab that app in Cydia asap to give back to planetbeing - and get a sweet app as well.

If the unlock is released, how will my t-mobile sim work in the iPhone 4? Sim-chopping??

It just goes black for a second and comes back to the Apple icon.
Should I just restore it. I was able to get it to shut down by holding the power button down.
      Any suggestions??? Thanks.
Is it still powered down?? Did you try to restart it, and if so did it do the same thing again?

Assuming that its still doing the "stuck at apple" thing, when its there, hold the "home" & "power" buttons down at the same time, till it shuts off. Then plug your iphone into a wall outlet or computer and it should turn on; hopefully this will boot you back to normal.

If that doesn't work, then I would suggest a restore of the phone.

      Hope this helps you!

Almost 48hrs I think? What time was the release of the new jailbreak the other day. I doubt it'll be 48 on the dot, but we will see. This is exciting.

Actually nm, i got lucky, invested in a Canadian iPhone, so all i really need is the jailbreak which is already out. If you ever get the opportunity, buy a Canadian iPhone, do it, its one less thing to worry about ...

My friend in Germany is still eagerly awaiting that unlock tho ..

Yeah, the adapter is awesome, it works great as a template for cutting it down, and then for an adapter to put it back in a normal sim sized device. Got mine for dirt cheap on ebay.

Here is something for you to think about. T-mobile is the ONLY network available for "locked" iphones in Germany. unlocked for me would mean i could use an ATT chip in the states. Wierd, huh?
I am waiting for this unlock so I don't have to wait till November!
Come on guys, work your magic!
Also who do i need to donate to since the DEV team accepts no donations?
