  • Android Ported to iPhone 3G - Ready

Had enough Android excitement yet? Of course not. Following up on the Froyo release yesterday, we've got the no less vital news that the iPhone 3G port of Android is now ready to download and install. Having shown off Google's OS running on a 3G two weeks ago, author David Wang has clearly had to iron out a few kinks before serving up the necessary binaries, but here they are now, replete with a handy install guide he's penned over at PC World. Time to get yourself on the dual-booting bandwagon, no?

    Download Here

admin edit: How did we miss this? I know this is like... a WEEK late now, but I'm putting it on the front page - still good stuff. OP posted a few days back, I'll change it to be current. Whoops, sorry folks.

This implementation has so many limitations it doesn't deserve the front page. A few more 3gs x 1 posts would certainly add to the value of this thread.

An installer not sanctioned by the port creator (planetbeing), with minor bugs, which installs a firmware which is not dual bootable, meaning anyone who does it will have to restore to get iPhoneOS back.... seems like a bad idea to push users to.

iphodroid needs to make a better website. it looks like one of those scam sites.

any why in gods name would they make a non dual-bootable installer? Just hold of on this

Nice, but I have a question. Is it David Wong, or David Wang? Because in this article, he is referred to as Wong, but in the article here, he is referred to as Wang. Which one is it?

I did the full process twice in my ubuntu system and everything boots fine, phone can receive texts, but the touch screen does not work and android will crash upon receiving a call or pressing the volume up button. I'll give it a shot with the mac tutorial, maybe the SSH will be a bit cleaner :- /

10min. + boot time, touch screen not working, stock apps don't load/crash.. Doesn't feel finished to me. I have installed it three different time with the some result, besides the touch screen, it worked once.

Maybe it's just me and my 3G, but it's a waist of time IMO.

Spent 8 hrs of my day trying to get it to work, but it's laggy, takes like 4 min to boot and there is no sound or touchscreen, I either messed up, or it really is that bad.

Edit: Nevermind, the touchscreen works now, but it still sucks, lol.

Edit 2: For some reason, everything just started working. It has sound, touch, and can make and recieve phone calls perfectly (text's too). It's still a little slow, but I'm impressed.

Edit 3: Tried to get G apps working and now I'm restoring, haha.

I don't know how it's ready when the battery is supposed to only last an hour. I tried this and it all installed fine and I get to the openiboot screen but when booting into the Android OS it never gets past the reading baseband nvram screen even though it says done after that.

Not doing it until the bugs are fixed and there is a verry good clear video tutorial on how to do it on a mac on an iPhone 3G.(:

I look forward to the polished version coming to the 3GS. It will probably be forever though before it is ready.
