  • EDIT: Cydia 1.1.2 Has NOT Released
This article is no longer relevant. This is not a release and was clarified by saurik.

New versions of Cydia are often posted like this to prepare for new platform features related to jailbreaks, like the unionfs work that comex has been documenting recently: these changes are largely untested and users upgrading to version 1.1.2 of Cydia without an explicit recommendation to do so are doing so at their own peril.

The reason that these files are placed in public is in order to make it simpler for the mechanisms of testing things, so version numbers do not need to be changed later in the process. However, that was obviously a mistake: people now scour this server looking for "updates" and then publish articles about "releases", which is ludicrous.
I apologize for the inconvenience and mis-leading factor of this article. It was not my intention and has been fixed. Please spread this news if anyone is in confusion. One disclaimer:

Releases for Cydia will come through the "Changes" log. Anything that you find different on the apt server is either for other purposes or something that is not ready. DO NOT use them unless noted otherwise.

Downloaded and updated. Works fine. Don't really see anything new on the surface, although most likely what is new isn't in the graphics.

Glad to see Saurik jumped in to provide a dose of common sense on this update.

It was not my intention to incorrectly share this information. I will correct this and ensure that what you have said is adequately stated. Thanks for initially getting back to me and once again I apologize for jumping to quick conclusions.

Problem is people like me who check Modmyi several times a day see this article and think it must be an update. We wouldnt question it if it was seen here. I updated to it and hopefully there are no ill effects. Shame on you Modmyi for posting this article for something that is not officially released!

      What the hell Josh?

If you have to install the update in such a fashion then it is clearly not 'released'.

Now you are creating a horde of muppets that will install this beta and rage at saurik when their phone crashes.

This article should be removed immediately.

So, this build has only five changes: some improvements to error message handling (well tested), a change to the keyboard for the Search panel (I have not even tried this, nor have I looked at the code for it: chpwn made the change, and only tested it on his firmware revision, AFAIK), some modifications to localization (a couple wording changes in Chinese, in particular), a fix for a memory leak in the web browser (that leaks memory so slowly you will never notice unless you are me, but for what it is worth this is well tested), and:

...a drastic modification to the mechanism for "stashing" (where all of your files are rearranged directly after a jailbreak), a change I made a day and a half ago and tested for two minutes. I put this change into a build for comex, who recently made comments about an improved platform for installing jailbreak filesystem changes. I spent a bunch of time thinking about how these changes could go in and not break any existing installations, but I cannot test these corner cases well and so far no one other than me (for two minutes) has tested "1.1.2" on an "already jailbroken device": all testing has been "during a jailbreak install".

This version, therefore, was likely never going to hit the index as a general update for users as a "release": if I were going to do that, I'd make certain the iOS 5 fixes were in first (there were some irritating changes to the web browser on iOS 5 that make things like Cydia's custom User-Agent header not work: this bug is pretty critical for iOS 5 support, and has not been examined yet).

I was gonna install it, until I read this.
I figured that was the case I wasn't going to install it...

Do not think badly of MMi, this was completely my fault. I take full responsibility for whatever actions come about.

This will not be removed. It is more effective to leave it up to ensure that people that read it know the truth. If it is removed, people will continue to believe otherwise and will have no clarification.

Ok, so installing was a bad idea...is there a way to revert to 1.1.1?

It's also more effective to leave two duplicate posts of the original wrong article. Now you have three articles with conflicting information. Good Job.

I believe there was only two: the front page and forums. They are now both fixed and are the same.

Looks like saurik has more testers than he planned on

It's all good Josh, no hard feelings. It was an honest mistake, we all make them.

Thanks appreciate the encouragement! I will definitely be more careful next time.
