  • blackra1n Released! Jailbreak 3.1.2 For All Devices

geohot has released his tool blackra1n to jailbreak 3.1.2 for ALL devices. This is a windows only release for now. iPod Touch 3rd generations must have their device plugged in and have to run blackra1n on every boot (tethered).

DO NOT USE THIS TOOL IF YOU NEED AN UNLOCK. THIS REQUIRES YOU TO RESTORE TO 3.1.2 PRIOR TO USING, WHICH WILL UPGRADE YOUR BASEBAND!

    Instructions:
    1. Update or Restore to 3.1.2 in iTunes (BASEBAND WILL BE UPGRADED FOR 3G AND 3GS)
    2. Launch blackra1n
    3. Press "make it ra1n"
    4. Enjoy!

    geohot:
So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.

    Download blackra1n here:
    blackra1n
    MMi Member Mirror
    Rapidshare
    MegaUpload

Please post your success stories or problems here.
    Enjoy!

    Via blkcadi:

    Take heed people.
Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team's offerings. Also blackra1n doesn't hacktivate.

UPDATE: NetMage created afc2add to take care of adding the service for you. It's available on Cydia and is hosted by MMi. Thanks Bro!

blackra1n doesn't patch the services.plist. You will have to do it manually to get usb browsing back.

SSH into your phone and navigate to /System/Library/Lockdown/Services.plist

Copy Services.plist (copy the original for backup) to your computer and open it in a plist editor or a text editor. Add the following info:

Paste the following key/dict combo above the line that reads
    <key>com.apple.crashreportcopy</key>

    PHP Code:
        <key>com.apple.afc2</key>
        <
    dict>
            <
    key>Label</key>
            <
    string>com.apple.afc2</string>
            <
    key>ProgramArguments</key>
            <array>
                <
    string>/usr/libexec/afcd</string>
                <
    string>--lockdown</string>
                <
    string>-d</string>
                <
    string>/</string>
            </array>
        </
    dict

or if you are lazy, here is a pre-patched services.plist

I recommend editing your own services.plist tho. Reboot your phone and you should be able to use whatever USB browser you want.

    Enjoy!

I heard from some websites that the iPhone firmware 3.1.3 is coming soon ....
I just wanted to know if I were to upgrade to the 3.1.3 if I were to keep my iPhone jailbroken with blackra1n or will I not be able to do it because I read in the Cydia Store that if you were upgrading to 3.1.2 that you will NOT be able to unlock iPhone ... Will that apply to 3.1.3 ??????????????????????
      I use AT&T not T-Mobile ...

Why don't you just ask at the website that gives you the information?
As far as I know there will be no 3.13 but if this other website that provides this fantastic information knows better go and ask there and come back and tell us all about it.

All you need to do is run BlackRa1n again, no need to restore. It's a tethered JB.

Sorry for sounding stupid , but what exactly is a teathered jailbreak ? I just bought a new 3GS and have the same problem .. Maybe it's something to do with the 'new' phones which were supposidly 'fixed' ? I'm not looking to unlock .. Any help would be appreciated ... Thanks in advance ...

All new 3GS iPhones have a new iBoot which prevents the injection of the Jailbreak.

This means that every time you reboot your phone you have to run the JB program (BlackRa1n or RedSn0w) again to start the phone. It doesn't do the whole JB again just the injection part. Until you do this the phone will show 'Connect to iTunes'.

And what happens to all those JB Apps from Cydia ? :-) do we have to install them all over again ?

No. all you have to do is run BlackRa1n (Or RedSn0w) for your phone to start as normal complete with all apps whether from the app store or cydia.

I can't get mine to work still!! I have done all of this. I have used diskaid to deleted the previously specified files. I have used Rock to download and reinstall cydia. I have used rock to delete the specified files, then reinstalled cydia. No go. I have restored my iPod to factory settings and rejailbroken. I have rejailbroken many times without restoring. I don't know what else to do. Any help?

      Hello all, quick question

i've had my iphone 3GS for about 2 weeks and decided to jailbreak it using Blackra1n

      itunes: latest
iphone fw: restored it when i first got it 2 weeks ago using iTunes, so still on 3.1.2

i downloaded an iphone restore ipsw [iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore] to do a restore of the iphone before the jailbreak, but when i use this file itunes returns an error "The iPhone could not be restored. The device isnt eligible for the requested build"

just wondering why i get this error and is it alright for me to just restore my iphone through itunes instead of using that file and then use blackra1n?

      cheers

You can no longer restore 3GS phones to 3.12 unless you have already jailbroken and got your SHSH on file with Cydia. You'll just have to JB without restoring. Once you've done so let cydia grab your files so you will always be able to restore to 3.13 but you can no longer get your signed files for <3.13

Hi, i've already got Blackra1n installed. I've had it since it first came out but now i want the unlock so i can use any sim in my 2G. Would i be able to just run this program so i get the unlock? without having to restore or losing all my stuff ect? Thanks for anyone who helps me out.
Or even better what i can download off Cydia or somewhere that will jailbreak it?

BootNeuter - it's a lot easier to use RedSn0w to unlock a 2G as it has BootNeuter built in but not a good idea to try if you've already ra1ned.

Already downloaded BootNeuter off Cydia. I clicked on the program and then it came up with something saying turn auto-lock to never and BootNeuter will exit. tried my other SIM in the phone and it says i had to connect to Itunes.

      Hello,

I'm fighting with my unlocked blackra1ned iPhone 3GS 3.1.2 since yesterday, no success so far. The problem is as follows:
Yesterday my iPhone did rebooted out of nowhere (I was on the phone while it happened, the call was disconnected and after another few seconds it got freezed). No problem I thought, I was on the way to home. After an hour or so I've tried to boot it again with usb and blackra1n. Didn't worked. To be more precise - each time I try to reboot it with blackra1n (as I did many times before - plug in usb, wait for the itunes logo, start blackra1n) the geohot logo appears, it stays so for few minutes, after that a spinning wheel appears on top of it and after another few minutes it reboots automatically.

I've tried to restore it with 3.1.2 using cydia's IP but I guess my ecid wasn't properly stored there or something... I'm not expert here, I get the message that my iPhone version can't be resolved or something similar to it...

Does anybody have some idea how can I get it fixed? Or I am screwed?
