  • blackra1n Released! Jailbreak 3.1.2 For All Devices

geohot has released his tool blackra1n to jailbreak 3.1.2 for ALL devices. This is a windows only release for now. iPod Touch 3rd generations must have their device plugged in and have to run blackra1n on every boot (tethered).

DO NOT USE THIS TOOL IF YOU NEED AN UNLOCK. THIS REQUIRES YOU TO RESTORE TO 3.1.2 PRIOR TO USING, WHICH WILL UPGRADE YOUR BASEBAND!

    Instructions:
    1. Update or Restore to 3.1.2 in iTunes (BASEBAND WILL BE UPGRADED FOR 3G AND 3GS)
    2. Launch blackra1n
    3. Press "make it ra1n"
    4. Enjoy!

    geohot:
So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.

    Download blackra1n here:
    blackra1n
    MMi Member Mirror
    Rapidshare
    MegaUpload

Please post your success stories or problems here.
    Enjoy!

    Via blkcadi:

    Take heed people.
Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team's offerings. Also blackra1n doesn't hacktivate.

UPDATE: NetMage created afc2add to take care of adding the service for you. It's available on Cydia and is hosted by MMi. Thanks Bro!

blackra1n doesn't patch the services.plist. You will have to do it manually to get usb browsing back.

SSH into your phone and navigate to /System/Library/Lockdown/Services.plist

Copy Services.plist (copy the original for backup) to your computer and open it in a plist editor or a text editor. Add the following info:

Paste the following key/dict combo above the line that reads
    <key>com.apple.crashreportcopy</key>

    PHP Code:
        <key>com.apple.afc2</key>
        <
    dict>
            <
    key>Label</key>
            <
    string>com.apple.afc2</string>
            <
    key>ProgramArguments</key>
            <array>
                <
    string>/usr/libexec/afcd</string>
                <
    string>--lockdown</string>
                <
    string>-d</string>
                <
    string>/</string>
            </array>
        </
    dict

or if you are lazy, here is a pre-patched services.plist

I recommend editing your own services.plist tho. Reboot your phone and you should be able to use whatever USB browser you want.

    Enjoy!

thanks, but is there a way to avoid this, because if it crashes on me like it has before when it reboots, and im at work then my phone wont work until i come home and rerun blackra1n

My phone never crashes - if yours does I'd try and find out why.
There is no alternative to a tethered JB for the new iBoot.

A boot dongle is something that you can carry around with you and plug into the phone to get it to boot rather than having to connect to a computer and run BlackRa1n each time.

After following the method on google which included renaming the http from /usr/lib/apt/methods my phone showed me this message:

      error refreshing data:

      Method HTTP has died unespectedly!

method /usr/lib/apt/methods/HTTP did not start correctly!

What i did i copied the file to my pc, then renamed it and put it back in the folder which ended up replacing it= http > HTTP.
I dont want to removed reinstall because i downloaded a file SSH Services, deleting will need me to restore my phone.

hi, sorry if this has already been asked but 83 pgs is a lot to go through :P.

I currently have a jailbroken 3G with 3.0 firmware. How do I use blackrain to upgrade to 3.1.2 jailbroken? Asking because step 1 seems to always be upgrade to 3.1.2 before jailbreaking. Thanks

Moderators please shut this thread down. This is just rediculouse

Just do a restore in iTunes if you want to use BlackRa1n or use Pwnage if you don't.

I have a simliar question as Deano1964. I know I can install my AppStore APPS again as they are on my iTunes without a problem but what aboyt my Cydia Apps. Do I have to search and install them one by one again? I want to update to the new firmware and jailbreak but I'd like to know that little detail first. If that is the case then I would most certianly write down everything I got from Cydia so I don't forget to reinstall anything. Of course having a way for my phone or computer to remember what I had and just reinstall with a single click would be ideal. Thanks.

Use Rock, it has the Ability too store all your Apps if u need too backup an Restore your Apps.

Just incase your wondering. Rock is the Same as Cydia but Faster, and In my Opinion a much broader description of Apps n Other Caterogies. BUT.I have Both.

Pkgbackup from Cydia will restore your apps. I wouldn't let Rock near my phone.

At the risk of sounding like an *** kisser, I`ve read this whole thread and have determined one thing. People having problems need to read, read and read some more. The answers are all here. I`ve just successfully run blackrain on a first gen iPod touch which had 1.1.4 on it. I don`t know how alot of you folks would have gotten along trying to jailbreak that firmware, this one, two, three system has really taken alot of the learning out of this. I`ve seen the same happen in other electronics based hobbies, it really is a shame.
