  • blackra1n Released! Jailbreak 3.1.2 For All Devices

geohot has released his tool blackra1n to jailbreak 3.1.2 for ALL devices. This is a windows only release for now. iPod Touch 3rd generations must have their device plugged in and have to run blackra1n on every boot (tethered).

DO NOT USE THIS TOOL IF YOU NEED AN UNLOCK. THIS REQUIRES YOU TO RESTORE TO 3.1.2 PRIOR TO USING, WHICH WILL UPGRADE YOUR BASEBAND!

    Instructions:
    1. Update or Restore to 3.1.2 in iTunes (BASEBAND WILL BE UPGRADED FOR 3G AND 3GS)
    2. Launch blackra1n
    3. Press "make it ra1n"
    4. Enjoy!

    geohot:
So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.

    Download blackra1n here:
    blackra1n
    MMi Member Mirror
    Rapidshare
    MegaUpload

Please post your success stories or problems here.
    Enjoy!

    Via blkcadi:

    Take heed people.
Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team's offerings. Also blackra1n doesn't hacktivate.

UPDATE: NetMage created afc2add to take care of adding the service for you. It's available on Cydia and is hosted by MMi. Thanks Bro!

blackra1n doesn't patch the services.plist. You will have to do it manually to get usb browsing back.

SSH into your phone and navigate to /System/Library/Lockdown/Services.plist

Copy Services.plist (copy the original for backup) to your computer and open it in a plist editor or a text editor. Add the following info:

Paste the following key/dict combo above the line that reads
    <key>com.apple.crashreportcopy</key>

    PHP Code:
        <key>com.apple.afc2</key>
        <
    dict>
            <
    key>Label</key>
            <
    string>com.apple.afc2</string>
            <
    key>ProgramArguments</key>
            <array>
                <
    string>/usr/libexec/afcd</string>
                <
    string>--lockdown</string>
                <
    string>-d</string>
                <
    string>/</string>
            </array>
        </
    dict

or if you are lazy, here is a pre-patched services.plist

I recommend editing your own services.plist tho. Reboot your phone and you should be able to use whatever USB browser you want.

    Enjoy!

Well I decided to bite the bullet and update my 32GB 3GS to 3.1.2 and I have to hand it to GeoHot, this was so simple it wasn't even funny. Very nice work.

For all of you having issueswith 3g not working (getting stuck on restore screen) here is the solution.

First..make sure you RESTORED to 3.1.2 NOT UPGRADED. If not, do that.
This would be hilarious if it were not so arrogant. Over 50 pages of posts and you have THE solution for 3G owners, do ya? I UPGRADED to 3.1.2, I did NOT do a RESTORE and blackra1n worked the first time for me.

This is actually partially true. I was able to get iPhone Browser to work following the instructions on the first page:

      In response to MikePA

I sat here with two other owners figuring out numerous ways to make it work since it didnt on first try for all of us. I posted a solution that worked for all three phones using Geo's blackra1n.

I didnt say I wrote the jailbreak
I didnt say I did something great
I didnt say I solved every issue

I said I found a solution for those with the 3g being stuck on the restore screen. My method was repeateable on three phones. Nothing fancy, just figured out a simple way to make it work by trying different things.

I think your response is the arrogrant one...Why dont you go f*ck yourself instead of trying to help others and waste our time while you try to bash others instead of contributing to this thread.

Side note, Ive already gotten messages from 4 others it worked...lol

      im out

which installers did you DL?...the consensus now is click and DL Cydia first...then you can go back later and get Rock or Icy if you like....1 at a time works best so NO app conflicts...good luck all.

I got mine working perfectly. I downloaded it through Rock.
I downloaded cydia first from blackra1n,then opened it, and waited the usual 30 minutes for it to load. Then i installed Rock from blackra1n ,which is where i got my perfectly working 5 icon dock.

Well like everyone else, I have tried almost everything here, I have tried windows XP and on vista 64 and I still cannot get my 3g to work on this.

Question, do I have to restore everytime it doesnt work or do I just keep trying?

Everything you downloaded from Cydia WILL be deleted.
Here's what I did to save time re-downloading my theme/appearance. Use WinSCP then go to /< root > then Library then Themes. Copy everything in there and save it to your desktop. When you've re-jailbroken, you can just put those files back.

If you're still getting stuck on the restore screen (usb-itunes) try this as it worked for me. I didnt move blackra1n or close anything in the task manager or even turned off Bonjour. Plus I did this on iPhone 3g 8gb-Win XP SP3.

      1. Close blackra1n if its still showing running
      2. Make sure iTunes is still on and the phone is plugged in
      3. Hold power button and Home button until the screen goes black (usually about 15 sec.)
      4. Release the power button and keep holding the Home button until the phone goes into DFU mode (about another 10 sec.)
      5. Restore FW 3.1.2 through iTunes (I was using iTunes 8.2.023)
      6. Once finished restoring, open up blackra1n.exe
      7. Click on "make it ra1n" and wait for it to recognize the phone and put it into recovery and "Voila!" GeoHotz face should pop up. Just wait for the phone to reboot and you should be jailbroken.

I did that step by step and it didnt fail me one bit

I had to restore everytime, but then i found out that i didn't have to
Try another USB port and Try doing this:

      XP

      1) Save Blackra1n to C:/Drive (or your root drive)
      2) I disabled my bonjour services & unticked iPod in msconfig > services.
      3) Turned off iPhone, connected to PC.
      4) Right click Make it ra1n, Run as, untick Protect my computer. Hit ok, the click Make it ra1n.
      5) Turn on iPhone.
      or

      VISTA

      1. Put blackra1n.exe on the C DRIVE
      2. Open Task Manager and close all itunes tasks (I even closed ituneshelper, which i found under the process tab)
      3. Plug in iphone
      2. Right click on blackra1n.exe, select run as administrator
      3. The iphone then entered the whole "usb itunes logo"
      4. Hold Power and Home button.
      5. (Still holding power and home) Blackra1n gives you a message like "you have jailbroken, wait for reboot" (this shows on your computer)
DO NOT CLOSE THIS MESSAGE OR THE BLACKRA1N
      6. When iphone reboots, open another blackra1n.exe (as admin)
      7. Press make it rain.

OOPS...that was a brainfart, I guess if you drag an extra icon down there you see that it is actually working...forgot it doesn't automatically rearrange like 5 column does
