  • blackra1n Released! Jailbreak 3.1.2 For All Devices

geohot has released his tool blackra1n to jailbreak 3.1.2 for ALL devices. This is a windows only release for now. iPod Touch 3rd generations must have their device plugged in and have to run blackra1n on every boot (tethered).

DO NOT USE THIS TOOL IF YOU NEED AN UNLOCK. THIS REQUIRES YOU TO RESTORE TO 3.1.2 PRIOR TO USING, WHICH WILL UPGRADE YOUR BASEBAND!

    Instructions:
    1. Update or Restore to 3.1.2 in iTunes (BASEBAND WILL BE UPGRADED FOR 3G AND 3GS)
    2. Launch blackra1n
    3. Press "make it ra1n"
    4. Enjoy!

    geohot:
So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.

    Download blackra1n here:
    blackra1n
    MMi Member Mirror
    Rapidshare
    MegaUpload

Please post your success stories or problems here.
    Enjoy!

    Via blkcadi:

    Take heed people.
Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team's offerings. Also blackra1n doesn't hacktivate.

UPDATE: NetMage created afc2add to take care of adding the service for you. It's available on Cydia and is hosted by MMi. Thanks Bro!

blackra1n doesn't patch the services.plist. You will have to do it manually to get usb browsing back.

SSH into your phone and navigate to /System/Library/Lockdown/Services.plist

Copy Services.plist (copy the original for backup) to your computer and open it in a plist editor or a text editor. Add the following info:

Paste the following key/dict combo above the line that reads
    <key>com.apple.crashreportcopy</key>

    PHP Code:
        <key>com.apple.afc2</key>
        <
    dict>
            <
    key>Label</key>
            <
    string>com.apple.afc2</string>
            <
    key>ProgramArguments</key>
            <array>
                <
    string>/usr/libexec/afcd</string>
                <
    string>--lockdown</string>
                <
    string>-d</string>
                <
    string>/</string>
            </array>
        </
    dict

or if you are lazy, here is a pre-patched services.plist

I recommend editing your own services.plist tho. Reboot your phone and you should be able to use whatever USB browser you want.

    Enjoy!

To all of those who are still experiencing problems with this Jailbreak, I'm posting here what I've done with my device.

In the beginning I used to have the same problem which is everyone is having. I tried many solutions but with no positive results.

Finally, I launched I tunes before launching Blackra1n and waited untill itunes recognized my phone and then launched Blackra1n and it worked like a charm with no delay. All of my previous attempts were before launching itunes but his time itunes came first and it was working during the whole JB process.

I hope this will work if you try it.

      I'm using Win Vista with Iphone 3g , 3.1.2

      Two words:

      Flaw...Less!

Just remember to make sure iTunes is open and recognizes your iPhone, than run blackra1n. Upgraded from 3.0.1 to 3.1.2, Then did as I described above. Thirty seconds later(rough estimate)all was said and done!

At first i had problem getting it to JB.
i kept getting stuck on "Recovery Mode" window on blackra1n.
So to fix that issue instead of going into properties of blackra1n.exe and enable Window XP compatibility. I DID NOT!!!
ran blackra1n again and it worked.

im on a window vista... iphone 3g[s]. 3.1.2fw.

It's not hard. But what if your iphone stuck during step 5 which is "wait" and you forced to restore it?

trust me i read all the 23 pages and tried xp, vista, all the suggestions. I gave up. i'm just not lucky enough tonight

Even though this post was not to me and though I've already posted what I did here it is again.

      Before
      • iPhone 3G, 3.01, jailbroken
      • Windows7 Ultimate (32 bit), blackra1n which I installed on the Desktop, right clicked said run as XP-SP3

      Procedure
      1. Connected iPhone to laptop
      2. Started iTunes manually
      3. Right clicked the iPhone, Backed up the phone
      4. Updated to 3.1.2
      5. Stopped iTunes
      6. Started blackra1n
      7. It finished.

      On iPhone
      1. Started blackra1n
      2. Installed Cydia
      3. Installed all my Cydia apps except MyWi, which doesn't work.

I did not have to restore my iPhone, all the App Store apps were there after I updated to 3.1.2.

I have a question. If I jb my iphone can I still use tethering to get online? Like using the carrier file from benm?

      Sorry guys. Bad English here...

      What I have:

      MacBook Pro (Early 2008)
iPhone 3GS - local carrier and data plan -3.0.1 jailbreaked w/ redsnow 0.8
      Mac OS X 10.5.8 - iTunes 9
      Windows XP SP3 (BootCamp) - iTunes 9

      iPhone original OS: .

What I did and what you can try:

      01. Download - download only - 3.1.2 firm on iTunes Mac.
      02. RESTORE (not update) normal click the iPhone. iTunes restore AND update by itself.
      03. Set it up as new iPhone. No backup. No sync. No anything.
      04. Reboot on Windows, connect iPhone. Close iTunes. Disable antivirus.
      05. Close iTunesHelper , iPodService and MDNSResponder on task manager.
      06. Right Click BlackRa1n, Select "Run As" and Untick "Protect My Computer and Data From Unauthorized Program Activity". Few seconds later... George´s face!
      07. Run blackra1n app on iPhone ans install Cydia. Cydia only. It´s enough for me.
      08. Install ******* - you know from...
      09. Back on Mac sync Contacts, Calendar, Apps.... from iTunes.
      10. Big smile on my - and maybe yours - face!

      Why I did:

Restore? It wat time to clean up my device and I think it works better on a clean iPhone.

      Thanks George! Great, great job!
