  • Dropbox Drops Ball

Security breaches like the attack on Sony's Playstation Network are a PR nightmare, and compromise the personal information of millions of users. Security breaches like a Dropbox update allowing any password to be entered to access an account is just kind of embarrassing.

Dropbox confirmed that a "code update" contained a bug that affected the programs "authentication mechanism." The glitch went unfixed for four hours leaving more than 25 million accounts without password protection.

The company issued an apology and Dropbox co-founder Arash Ferdowsi posted this statement in a blog post:

"This should never have happened. We are scrutinizing our controls and we will be implementing additional safeguards to prevent this from happening again."

Make sure to check your accounts to be sure none of your data or personal information was compromised. I can just imagine some idiot who figured everything out and started deleting random files from accounts.

      Just kind of embarassing?

No, it's completely "change your name and go into hiding" embarassing.
