Best Buy to Match Apple's Back to School Promotion
Last week, Apple announced the details of its 2011 Back to School promotion. Sadly for some, the practice of giving away a free iPod touch with the purchase of a discounted Mac was discontinued. It's its place, students now get a $100 Mac App Store gift card to go with the purchase of a qualifying Mac - MacBook, MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air, iMac, and Mac Pro.
Fortunately, if you're still looking for a deal on a new Mac and something that isn't a Mac App Store gift card, you may want to pay a visit to your nearest Best Buy. I confirmed with a Best Buy rep this morning (thanks to some helpful promoting from a reader tip) that the retail giant will not only match the discounted sales price on a new Mac, Bets Buy will even throw in a $100 Best Buy card, which ultimately gives consumers a lot more diversity in their buying options.
This deal, however, isn't being advertised. So don't look for TV ads, billboards, in-store signage, or paper coupons of any sort. This one you have to ask about when you're in the store. Unfortunately, we can't yet confirm that this deal is universal across all Best Buy stores (although it probably is) so just be sure to ask before you head for the cash register expecting a deal and a gift card.
If Apple is still the place you want to go for your new Mac, Apple's Back to School promotion spans June 16 through Sept. 20. According to Apple, students can get the gift card by first purchasing their new Mac via one of the following methods: through the online education store; an Apple retail outlet, an authorized campus store; or by calling 1-800-MY-Apple.
