Apple's marketing machine turned out a new iPad 2 commercial entitled "Now." Watch the ad and you'll understand the title quite easily.
The gist of the Ad is a number of things are possible "Now" because of the iPad 2.
- Now we can watch a newspaper.
- Listen to a magazine.
- Curl up with a movie.
- And see a phone call.
- Because there's this (cue shot of iPad2).
Watching the latest iPad 2 ad it becomes apparent Apple knows what the heck they're doing. Other tablet, and smartphone manufacturers attempt to produce commercials that exude cool. Outside of Motorola's 1984-esque Super Bowl ad you can color me unimpressed, and even that was more of a statement maker than actual product pusher.
Apple already has the cool points, and the wow factor and that bleeds into their marketing campaigns. They don't need booming soundtracks, and quick cuts exposing the lavish lifestyles beautiful people lead when using their products. Simple functionality, with a borderline nostalgic soundtrack, being used by faceless everyday people. Or in the iPhones case a simple hand, accompanied by a more youthful male voice, and usually more upbeat music, highlights the products features. Their ads manage to target almost every demographic without flashy special effects or lifestyles.
Go watch any of the commercials for the Droid, or Droid 2, or any of those phones and ask yourself "If I was a female would this appeal to me?"
Most likely not.
