With pockets, purses, bags, and other concealing mechanisms, you can sometimes miss a call or important text because your iPhone is set to vibrate or low volume. This can be annoying especially if you're waiting for an important call or text. Up until PocketMode was released, one would just have to change their habit to ensure that they hear the phone ring. PocketMode alleviates this problem using the iPhones ambient-light sensor to determine whether to ring louder or not.
The ambient light detector senses how dark or light the environment around the iPhone is. PocketMode uses this to its advantage by incorporating it into its functionality. With PocketMode, if your phone is in a dark place, it will ring louder to ensure that you hear the ringtone. This is great for those of us who put our phones into our pockets are purses. Also, this allows us to keep the same volume setting or our phone on vibrate because PocketMode won't alter the ringing volume unless it senses that its in a dark environment. Because the ring volume is determined by the light detection, as soon as you remove your iPhone from the dark place, it will return the ring volume (whether low or muted) to its previous state. You can set the sensitivity of the sensor in regards to PocketMode in the Settings.app tab so this is a convenient plus.
PocketMode also has a On/Off switch for overriding the mute switch. It's handy especially if you want to leave your phone on vibrate for most of the time. Another prominent feature, which I think is extremely crucial, is the Night Mode. One question that comes to mind is "What happens when it's night time; I don't want it to ring really loud because the sensor detects darkness." Night Mode takes care of this by allowing you to set times when you don't want PocketMode to change the ringing volume.
