  • MyWi Released! Turn your iPhone into a Wifi hotspot!

Create a WiFi HotSpot with a press of a finger! Wherever you are - you can connect your laptop or other mobile device to your iPhone easily!

    Features:
    - Create WiFi Hotspot to connect mutiple laptops or mobile devices to share your iPhone's internet connection
    - 40 bit and 104 bit WEP Security to prevent others from accessing your WiFi HotSpot
    - Ability to enable USB and Bluetooth Tethering on your iPhone as well
    - Broadcasts the Network Name (SSID) - no need to fuss with creating an adhoc network on your laptop
    - Uses less battery and much faster then PdaNet due to native routing
    - Shows up and down bandwith usage

NOTE: MyWi does not support the iPhone 2G. Please see your carrier contract for eligibility and/or additional fees.
I played around with this all afternoon, and it seems to work great. A nice addition to this app is that you don't have to have tethering enabled from a custom ipcc either, you can enable tethering from MyWi. I had three laptops connected to my phone earlier this afternoon and they all were able to cruise the net quite nicely. MyWi sells for $9.99 and is a great application to have on your iPhone. There is a free 10 day trial available also

cash edit: you can get it via rockyourphone

    Enjoy!

I spend most of my life in hotels and have never been able to bring my xbox360 along to play on internet due to it not having a browser to type in the password for the hotel. Would this program allow me to create a wi-fi signal with the hotels wi-fi connection thus allowing my xbox to bypass the password check?
3g is going to be way to slow to play xbox live...... use you laptop as a wireless bridge!

in the network connections window, highlight both lan and wireless, right click and select bridge. This will allow internet access on the Ethernet port.

when you log in to the hotels wifi connection through your laptop it will send the signal out of the Ethernet port rather than pull it in.

just connect the laptop to the xbox and bam.........

I have the logs, they are huge. Can I email them to you directly ? what email address ???

you know you just saved me double wifi charges. sometimes i bring two laptops to the hotel and i have to pay for both of them to use wifi. with your tip i can just bridge the connection if i need to get on the 2nd one for some reason.

If you all you require is tethering, connecting your laptop to the internet through the iphone's data connection either through the iphones wifi connection or usb, you can use pdanet or this and be happy.

But if you want to connect multiple devices, or a device that doesn't have an interface to create an adhoc network, or a usb port, yet has wifi, you can run this program on your iphone and share out it's data connection. That is the main difference.

For example, I have an old 2g iphone that I gave to my son to use as a poor man's iTouch. In the house it works great because I have wifi. But if we go out on a long car trip, with this program, I can share out my 3g iphone connection and he would be able to tap into it via the iphone 2g. Since I'm driving, I most likely will not be using the internet on the iphone.

Wow, this is great. I couldn't tether my 3G because it kept messing up my MMS settings. This is just what I need!

Same. But at least you get 700kbps. I get to 4 and it stops.

Already deleted the app. Would be cool to have a wi-fi hotspot, but I guess I'll live with just USB tethering.

Didn't work as wireless or even usb tethering. Tried it with both PC and MacBook. Would be cool if it worked. Deleted

I couldn't stay connected more than 30 seconds at first. Since I was also having a network problem with another app (Delicious Library would no longer sync), I decided to re-jailbreak using redsn0w for Mac. (I did the original jailbreak on a PC with purplera1n). No restore or anything, I just went right over it.

All my settings and apps remained intact, and everything works fine now.

I don't think you'll need the hotel wifi at all if you have this app, connect your 360 straight to you iPhone using the MyWi.

My PS3 and MacBook seem to be picking it up but none connect
i didnt notice if someone already replied to this... but good luck trying to effectively use xbox live with your iphones internet... even if it is 3g speed. its not going to be fast enough to handle master chief pwning 38 grunts or whatever.

      point is. wont work.

if you were to connect your 360 to your hotels internet it would prob work but not too great just because im sure there would be other people on the network too and the routers arent always that close and blablabla. you really should just hardwire your 360.

It appears that installing iRock and MyWi broke Cydia. Since I used Cydia to install iRock, it must have been working at that time. No other apps have been installed and now Cydia does not work. It immediately crashes to the springboard.

Can still SSH into the phone. Wonder is there is anyway to fix Cydia that way?

Greetings, I downloaded and successfully installed this program for my iPhone 3GS. However, since installing it, my hotspot has been hit and miss. Sometimes on for one minute, then turning off. So I would like to know if anyone can answer the following.

      (1) Do I need to have my iPhone 3GS on wifi mode or strictly 3G data mode, or have them both turned on at the same time,, prior to activating/turning on this program?

      (2) Once I successfully get my hotspot working via my iPhone, does my iPhone need to stay awake for the connection to remain constant? I mean, I have my phone set to slide lock after 5 minutes, and then the screen light of course turns off as a part of this normal process of locking. Then when I press the home button, I get my slide to unlock screen. So should I have my phone configured to never lock and always have my display light on? Will I loose my hotspot if my iphone slide locks, and the screen goes dim?

      (3) If the answer to the above question #2 is that my iphone has to NOT be (slide) locked and the always awake, with the display light on, then does anyone have any Cydia app they can recommend that will "specifically work on 3GS" to keep my phone awake, even with the screen dimmed and off.

Thanks for any help. I just wish the "Rock Your Phone" website gave alittle guidance on how to use this program, or at least answer these above questions. Thanks again.

I am having the same problem most ppl having with this app.

It works for about 45 seconds and then no signal. Then the signal reads " waiting for users to connect to ADHOC"

What is the solution to this problem?

      Rock App website states:
      "iPhone 3GS
No support at this time (we may in the future - but will not work at all currently)"

Didn't know this when I installed it through Cydia. Intelliscreen, Tlert, and MyProfiles worked fine. However I later got a crash where the phone prompted me to restore. (No network error). Interestingly, Intelliscreen was still functioning on the Lockscreen on top of the Restore screen.
Short story is...I have a new phone now. Apple said it was a hardware failure. Fortunately I was able to remove Intelliscreen by accessing the phone by running Redsnow, although still had a network error.

I'm hesitant to try Rock until they start testing on 3GS and fully support it.

New to the Forum - but I wanted to read some reviews before trying this and this quote struck me as odd. About 2 weeks ago I pulled out my old reliable Moto Razr which I used to tether when I had my 2G iPhone. However, the same thing happened on my RAZR, after initial connection, data just stopped.

I will lay money that AT&T (at least in the States) is hijacking the sessions. Has anyone else tried other devices?

No, you have to install all 3 debs because

MyWi depends on RockExtentions and RockExtentions depends on RockApp

NOT THE BEST... doesnt work with PSP, PS3 consoles... still being an AD HOC connection, consoles dont connect through ADHOC, AGAIN, another application for PC, LAPTOPS... just computers... can someone make the application with SSD interface? (like WMwifiRouter)
