  • Geekaphone Turns Smartphone Speed Test Into Digital Thunderdome

Geekaphone produces some crazy interesting articles and info graphics on their mobile phone blog. However, their new mobile speed test ups the digital ante for the rest of us.

There are tons of Mobile Speed Test applications, and programs wandering around in the cold bitter wilderness that is the internets, but none are as social as Geekaphones. Seriously. Being able to brag to my friends about something my phone does better than theirs, even if they don't know a kilobyte from an overbite, is priceless.

My iPhone 4 is faster than your Droid Suck. Bottom line I'm getting into Heaven before you.

Seriously though, check it out. The app ranks phones based on region, carrier, upload, download, latency, browser benchmarks, and overall speed. You can even connect to facebook and share your speeds with friends, just so they know how inadequate their handset is to yours. You'll likely start getting more random high fives in the hall way, and whistles shot your way in the street. Who knows even some extra wings in your basket at the local brew pub. Or a free beer. Or lose your virginity.

Right now the MyTouch 4G on T-Mobile is the reigning champion of mobile speed supremacy. Of course this only when the phone is operating within T-Mobile's 4G coverage area.

Be on the look out for a ModMyi mobile speed competition soon. Winner takes all. Or something. We'll fill you in.

The iPhone 4 doesn't even support 4G. I'd rather have some T-Mobile 4G coverage than none at all.

I'm guessing that, aside from the myTouch 4G, all the phones were tested on 3G and that's why they scored in the low 200's. So what was the 3G score of the myTouch? Seems to me like they compared apples and oranges here!

Just ran this on my myTouch 4G, and wow i blew everyone else away with a score of 569. Getting over 11mbps downloads off t-mobiles hspa+ network. I an running cyanogen mod 7 i suppose that could have something to do with it, but still its cool to know i have the fastest phone for the time being.

I believe it. I've gotten over 5Mbps download speeds on my iPhone 4 before. Upload most always maxes out around 1.24Mbps.

336 points in the heart of Chicago with iPhone 4 -- I don't know what everyone else is complaining about with regard to service here...

AFAIK, HSPA+ isn't '4G'. While T-Mobile may have a fast network, unless they are rolling out LTE, they don't have '4G'. AT&T also has HSPA+, but this marketing nonsense from T-Mobile is just going to force others to call their non-4G networks, '4G' (and supported handsets), which means they can all charge us more for something which is more like 3.5G.
      BTW, iPhone 4 doesn't have HSPA+ anyhow...
