  • iFacePad: Enable FaceTime on Your iPad

Earlier this month Paul had covered a story about a hacker who manually enabled FaceTime on the iPad. The process required some manual installation which wasn't quite easy for the inexperienced. However, a developer by the name of Intell has created an app that does the work for you. iFacePad is an Mac OS X app which will allow you to enable FaceTime on your iPad just like the iPod Touch 4G. The app can be downloaded here.

You will be required to have the iPod Touch 4G IPSW Firmware on hand, (download here), and preferably access to a Mac (iFacePad is a Mac OS X App).

For this particular setup, you will also need to download PhoneDisk here.

Ensure that you have installed OpenSSH and AFC2 from Cydia before getting started. If you used greenpois0n to jailbreak, AFC2 should already be installed.

Launch PhoneDisk and connect to your iPad. Remember to make sure root is enabled and you are in the root directory. At this point, launch the iFacePad.app file. After launching the app a dialog box will appear saying "All Done" and request that you reboot the iPad.

From here you should now have a FaceTime app on your springboard, just like the iPod Touch 4G.

Hopefully we will see an app available on Cydia shortly that does the same thing, without the need to use a Mac/PC.

This Would actually be quite good for us that don't want iPad 2. What the dev should do is tweak it so you could upload a photo for the other person to see or better still a little looping video

Hey, I am developing this thing now! Intell said he will implement it into iFacePad when I finish writing it.

I'm surprised no one has tried to implement this on the iPad 1 but using your iPhone as a wireless camera ( like the 3GS or 3G iPhone). Then this would be worn it especially for people who don't want to get the iPad 2 and already have an iPad 1. I use an app from the AppStore called iPad camera that wirelessly over wifi or Bluetooth connects the iPhone camera to the iPad. So I bet there is a way to do this it can be called tethered FaceTime. If I had a Mac and any kind of programming skills I would try to make this myself. What do you guys think? Let me know.
