Excellent question adamjohn. Although I think I know the answer.

I was hoping it would be the 19 dollar plan they have on their site, but looks like that's too good to be true. Looks like I'll be the one that's not getting the data plan.

I will definitely just try using my current data plan works on my e6 for browsing/email.

But the worry is whether or not the $40 data plan is required for purchase! Heck! $40/month is more than my complete cell phone bill before I upgraded to a family plan.

Well, considering that that's for a data plan I suppose that's not too bad also considering the anticipation, hype and pre-craze over the iPhone. But along with the price of the phone, how many will be able to fork out that kind of change just to get the coolest cellphone?

Yes, it's considered to be in the same class as a smart phone with the email and internet capabilities so it will require a data plan to handle its funky ongoings.

I am the one to confirm it thanks to some smoozing of the att lady

anyways assuming she is right you must have the data plan to use the net, so most likely must have it to buy the phone. She could not confirm that part as they do not know. She said without question there will be a sim card. She said the data plan will be the same as the current one that they offer for the blackberry devices ($40) but it might have a new name for the iphone

Well the SIM card was confirmed in the official specs posted on macrumors, but the first we heard of the required $40 was this afternoon for p_f.

where are you getting the classification information? I'm not doubting, I'm just wondering if you work with At&t or if you're just assuming like so many of the rest of us.

doesnt seem like it. need the higher data plans. since the browser is high quality and uses more info (like the blackberries) they require more $

but most of the time ill be using wifi. for example during the school year. im hooked up with wifi cuz my school is covered. and so is my house. which is were i spend most of my time...

i dont think cingular cares that you will be using wifi instead of their network, they care that you have the potential to use their data network, maybe they wont require a data plan, who knows, even the att employees dont know yet. They will only say the data plan is $40

$40 data plan? Well, seeing how my boss has recently offered to pay my cell bill...
